The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking an expert Music & Sound Annotation contributor with at least three years of hands-on experience in music or audio. You will annotate 30–90 second field recordings, compare paired recordings of the same song across locations, and evaluate AI-generated descriptions.

This is a remote, part-time contractor engagement expected to last one to three months. The expected commitment is 20–25 hours per week, with at least 20 hours required. Compensation is $30–$45 USD per hour.

What You'll Do

You will work in a web-based annotation environment using dropdowns, timestamps, and structured notes. Your annotations should be precise, consistent, and supported by clear evidence.

  • Identify instruments in noisy, real-world recordings
  • Estimate tempo within a few beats per minute
  • Identify musical key, using relative pitch when referenced
  • Mark timestamps for background events
  • Describe scene details in field recordings
  • Compare paired recordings of the same song across locations
  • Review AI-generated descriptions as correct, incorrect, or invented
  • Write brief, evidence-based explanations for your evaluations

Requirements

Applicants should bring substantial practical experience in music or audio and be comfortable applying analytical listening skills to complex real-world recordings. Clear written English and fluent English proficiency are required.

  • At least three years of hands-on music or audio experience
  • Background as a musician, producer, engineer, educator, sound recordist, sound designer, foley artist, or audio editor
  • Knowledge of music theory
  • Strong analytical listening ability
  • Ability to identify instruments in noisy recordings
  • Ability to estimate tempo within a few beats per minute
  • Ability to identify musical key, with relative pitch acceptable when referenced
  • Clear written English and fluent English proficiency
