About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists create challenging examples, provide accurate reference answers, and review model outputs so advanced systems can reason more reliably in technical fields such as molecular biology.

This work offers a direct opportunity to shape cutting-edge AI while working remotely with flexible hours. Your subject-matter expertise will help establish how models approach DNA and RNA sequence design.

  • Create training examples and ground-truth solutions
  • Evaluate model responses for correctness and biological reasoning
  • Help define standards for high-quality AI outputs

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Molecular Biology AI Training Expert focused on DNA and RNA sequence design. You will design difficult molecular biology tasks, produce accurate and well-documented solutions, review AI-generated work, and create rubrics that define quality across multiple nucleic acid design applications.

The role covers primers for PCR, qPCR, and cloning; plasmids and expression vectors; gRNA and sgRNA for CRISPR editing; mRNA and RNA constructs; and HDR or other repair templates.

  • Hourly pay: $70 to $105
  • Minimum commitment: 20 hours per week on weekdays
  • Part-time contractor position
  • Location: United Kingdom

What You'll Do

You will turn expert molecular biology judgment into structured training data that can improve advanced generative AI systems. Your work will include both creating reference material and identifying where model reasoning fails.

  • Design challenging molecular biology tasks and write accurate, well-documented ground-truth solutions.
  • Develop tasks involving primers, plasmids, expression vectors, gRNA, sgRNA, mRNA, RNA constructs, and HDR or repair templates.
  • Apply cloning strategies including Gibson, Golden Gate, Gateway, and restriction cloning.
  • Review molecular biology tasks and model outputs for correctness, rigor, and biological reasoning.
  • Write clear feedback explaining errors and improvement opportunities.
  • Create guidelines and rubrics covering guide and target selection, homology arm length, primer melting temperature, codon optimization, and regulatory elements.
  • Work with research and engineering teams to identify weaknesses in molecular biology reasoning.
  • Collaborate with other subject-matter experts to maintain consistency and accuracy in training data.

Requirements

This role requires advanced training and hands-on experience in molecular biology and nucleic acid design. A PhD is strongly preferred, and candidates should be able to explain technical design decisions clearly and precisely in writing.

  • PhD strongly preferred in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, synthetic biology, bioengineering, or a related life science field.
  • Hands-on experience designing nucleic acid constructs across several relevant areas.
  • Experience with primers, plasmids and vectors, gRNA and sgRNA, mRNA, and HDR or repair templates.
  • Experience with cloning strategies such as Gibson, Golden Gate, Gateway, or restriction cloning.
  • Knowledge of codon optimization.
  • Strong peer-reviewed publication record, weighted toward first-author work.
  • Publication experience in notable venues such as Nature, Cell, eLife, Nucleic Acids Research, PNAS, or EMBO Journal.
  • Ability to commit reliably to at least 20 hours per week on weekdays.
  • Strong written communication and precise scientific reasoning.

Helpful Background

Previous experience in AI training, model evaluation, or data annotation is helpful but not required. The core value of this role comes from your molecular biology expertise and ability to assess sequence design rigorously.

  • AI training experience
  • Generative AI or model evaluation experience
  • Data annotation experience
  • Clear explanations of complex biological decisions
