About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors review examples, evaluate model responses, and provide clear, accurate feedback so AI systems can reason and communicate more effectively.

In this project, your mechanical engineering judgment will help assess technical reasoning, factual accuracy, methodology, and physical plausibility in AI-generated content.

  • Remote work using a computer and internet connection
  • Flexible contractor work that can fit around other commitments
  • Direct contribution to the quality of engineering-focused AI systems

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Mechanical Engineering AI Training Expert to review, generate, and evaluate AI-generated engineering content. You will assess solutions for accuracy, clarity, and reasoning quality while writing high-quality explanations and rating multiple responses.

This is an hourly, part-time remote contractor role requiring 20 or more hours per week. The rate is up to $70 per hour.

  • Role type: Part-time contractor
  • Work arrangement: Remote
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours per week
  • Pay: Up to $70 per hour
  • Primary language: English

What You'll Do

You will apply your engineering knowledge to evaluate how well AI-generated responses solve technical problems. Your reviews should consider both the final answer and the quality of the reasoning used to reach it.

  • Review AI-generated engineering solutions and generate expert mechanical engineering content
  • Evaluate step-by-step problem-solving, reasoning quality, and adherence to prompts
  • Identify methodological or conceptual errors and fact-check assumptions
  • Write high-quality explanations and model solutions
  • Rate and compare multiple responses based on correctness and reasoning quality
  • Check units, dimensional consistency, assumptions, and physical plausibility

Requirements

This opportunity is designed for candidates with formal engineering training and strong technical fundamentals. The listed experience level is entry level, but applicants must meet the educational and subject-matter requirements below.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Physics
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, applied physics, engineering math, and system modeling
  • Ability to evaluate technical solutions for correctness, methodology, units, assumptions, and physical plausibility
  • Minimum C1 English proficiency
  • Reliable, self-directed approach and ability to deliver consistent quality in a remote contractor workflow

Helpful Background

Experience applying basic design principles in real engineering contexts can help you assess whether AI-generated solutions reflect practical engineering judgment. Previous work in AI training, annotation, or technical reviewing is also strongly preferred.

  • Experience with requirements, constraints, margins, and engineering trade-offs
  • Previous experience with AI data training or annotation
  • Previous experience with technical reviewing

Who Should Apply

This role may suit mechanical, aerospace, or engineering physics graduates who are confident evaluating technical explanations and want to contribute to the development of AI. Strong attention to detail, independent judgment, and the ability to explain complex reasoning clearly are important for consistent review quality.

The role is available to candidates located in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Cambodia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, the United States, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

  • Engineering professionals or graduates with strong analytical fundamentals
  • Candidates comfortable comparing multiple technical responses
  • Applicants interested in flexible, remote AI training work
