The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a Legal Evaluation Specialist for a project focused on evaluating and enhancing advanced AI models in the legal domain. You will apply legal expertise to develop difficult legal question-and-answer pairs, verify answers against primary legal materials, and assess AI-generated responses.
This is a remote contractor role requiring 10 to 15 hours per week. The schedule is flexible, and compensation ranges from $40 to $90 per hour.

What You'll Do
You will create high-quality legal evaluation content designed to test complex reasoning, accuracy, and legal judgment. Your work will combine legal research, precise writing, response evaluation, and careful iteration based on project standards and reviewer feedback.
Research and verify answers using primary legal materials.
Provide clear citations and thorough supporting documentation.
Evaluate AI-generated responses to your questions.
Iterate on prompts and content to keep evaluations challenging and legally robust.
Write questions and answers with exceptional clarity, precision, and unambiguous wording.
Incorporate reviewer feedback and follow project guidelines and quality benchmarks.
Requirements
This role is suited to a JD holder, law student, or legal professional with demonstrated expertise in legal research and analysis. You should be comfortable locating, interpreting, and synthesizing primary legal sources and assessing complex legal arguments for accuracy and nuance.
JD or equivalent legal professional background.
Experience in legal research and analysis using primary legal sources.
Exceptional written English fluency; native proficiency is not required.
Ability to design challenging legal questions and scenarios.
Strong analytical judgment for evaluating complex legal reasoning.
Exceptional attention to detail and precise written communication.
Ability to work independently and reliably in a remote setting.
Helpful Background
Prior experience with AI training or evaluation is advantageous but not required. Experience working independently on remote projects can also help you succeed in this role.
