As the hiring organization for this role, OpenTrain offers remote, flexible contracting opportunities where you can grow your skills and contribute to how legal AI systems are built and evaluated.

About AI Training Work in Legal

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building AI: experts review examples, rate outputs, and prepare the data that modern models learn from. Legal projects require careful reasoning, attention to compliance, and precise written summaries.

Specialist legal work often pays more for domain expertise and gives contributors a chance to directly influence how legal AI interprets contracts, regulations, and case scenarios.

The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Legal AI Training Specialist to support training of legal models through research, document review, and structured evaluations. This is a remote, part-time contractor role focused on analyzing legal materials and producing concise, accurate annotations and summaries.

You will work across contracts, regulatory filings, and case-based scenarios to identify risks, inconsistencies, and compliance gaps that help improve legal workflows and model behavior.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct legal research across multiple practice areas.
  • Review contracts, regulatory filings, and other legal documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Interpret laws, regulations, and policies to create structured legal evaluations.
  • Write concise summaries and legal reasoning for case-based scenarios.
  • Identify inconsistencies, legal risks, and compliance gaps in materials.
  • Collaborate on suggested improvements to legal workflows and documentation standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate strong attention to detail.

Requirements

This role is entry level but requires demonstrable legal research, contract analysis, or regulatory interpretation skills and strong written communication.

You must be comfortable working remotely as a contractor and managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Strong expertise in legal research, contract analysis, or regulatory interpretation.
  • Excellent written communication, concise documentation, and legal reasoning skills.
  • High attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Familiarity with legal compliance standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to manage priorities and deadlines in a remote environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication and professional judgment.
  • English fluency required.

Helpful Background

The following experiences are not required but will make your application stronger and help you ramp quickly on legal annotation projects.

  • Experience working remotely with distributed legal or compliance teams.
  • Litigation support, compliance review, or legal operations experience.

Compensation, Schedule & Data Work

This is a contractor, part-time role. Expect a time commitment of 20+ hours per week.

Pay is hourly at $15–$25 USD per hour. The work focuses on document data: evaluation ratings, text summarization, and question-answering tasks.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
  • Data type: Document; label types include evaluation rating, text summarization, and question answering.
  • Worldwide applicants accepted; English required.
