The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Legal AI Evaluation Expert to create, review, and improve expert tasks that reflect practical legal work. You will analyze legal issues, apply laws and legal principles, evaluate the accuracy and usefulness of responses, and produce high-difficulty tasks with gold-standard solutions.

The work also includes quality calibration, careful handling of edge cases, and resolving or escalating unclear rubric criteria. The engagement is suitable for a legal professional who can combine strong legal analysis with clear written communication.

What You'll Do

  • Create challenging legal tasks and gold-standard solutions grounded in practical legal work.
  • Review and calibrate other contributors' outputs while maintaining day-to-day quality.

  • Refine legal content and escalate genuine edge cases or unclear evaluation criteria.

Required Qualifications

This role requires substantial professional legal experience despite being categorized as entry level in the listing. Candidates should meet the legal qualification and practice requirements below.

  • Approximately 5 to 15 years of legal practice, ideally at Senior Associate, Counsel, or an equivalent level.
  • Juris Doctor, active bar admission, or an equivalent legal qualification and professional license applicable to your region.
  • Advanced experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and revising commercial contracts, legal agreements, policies, and related documents.
  • Strong legal research, issue-spotting, risk assessment, and practical-advice skills.
  • Expert ability to interpret laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance.
  • Clear written communication and careful attention to detail.
  • Sound judgment when evaluating legal responses and resolving rubric ambiguities.

Helpful Background

Prior experience in AI evaluation, data annotation, content review, quality assurance, or a related analytical role can help you succeed, but it is not required. A bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is also helpful.
