The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Legal AI Evaluation Expert to create, review, and improve challenging tasks that reflect practical legal work. You will analyze legal issues, apply laws and principles, assess AI-generated responses, and refine outputs for clarity and usefulness.

You will also produce gold-standard solutions, calibrate contributor output, maintain quality, and escalate genuine edge cases or unclear evaluation criteria. What You'll Do

  • Apply legal reasoning, laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance to complex matters.
  • Review and calibrate contributor output against quality expectations.
  • Identify risks and escalate edge cases or unclear evaluation criteria.
  • Assess commercial contract drafting, review, negotiation, and revision experience.
  • Probe legal research, analytical judgment, and complex risk assessment.
  • Evaluate the ability to interpret laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance.
  • Test judgment when assessing AI-generated legal responses for accuracy and practical usefulness.

Requirements

This role is intended for an experienced legal professional who can bring sound legal judgment to difficult, realistic scenarios. You should be comfortable working with commercial agreements and translating legal authority into practical recommendations.

  • Approximately 5 to 15 years of legal practice experience, ideally at senior associate, counsel, or equivalent level in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Juris Doctor, active bar admission, or an equivalent legal qualification and professional license applicable to your region.
  • Advanced experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and revising commercial contracts, legal agreements, policies, and other legal documents.
  • Strong legal research, analytical judgment, risk assessment, and practical-advice skills.
  • Expert ability to interpret laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance and translate them into actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to verify a JD, active bar admission, or equivalent regional legal qualification and license.

Helpful Background

Experience in AI evaluation, data annotation, content review, quality assurance, or a related analytical role is helpful but not required. A bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is also accepted.
