Why AI training matters
AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human side of building modern AI. People prepare and refine the examples that help models learn to read, speak, translate, and reason.
This work is flexible, often remote, and accessible: many projects need attention to language and culture rather than prior AI experience, and contributors directly shape how state‑of‑the‑art systems behave.
The role
We are recruiting a Kinyarwanda language expert to support translation, editing, review, and linguistic refinement for Kinyarwanda text used in AI training datasets. This is a remote contractor, part‑time role with an expected minimum of 20+ hours per week.
You will work on text tasks including translation/localization and evaluation/rating to improve model output and dataset quality.
- Engagement type: Contractor, part‑time.
- Time requirement: 20+ hours/week.
- Languages required: Kinyarwanda (rw) and English (en).
- Data type: Text; label types: translation/localization and evaluation/rating.
- (platform provided by project).
What you'll do
Day‑to‑day work focuses on translating, editing, and evaluating Kinyarwanda text for accuracy, clarity, and cultural appropriateness. You will check grammar and context, correct model outputs, and help refine language datasets.
You will also provide linguistic guidance on idioms, nuances, and culturally specific references to ensure the AI behaves appropriately for Kinyarwanda speakers.
- Translate content into and from Kinyarwanda with attention to accuracy and cultural fit.
- Evaluate and correct natural language data for grammar, clarity, and context.
- Review model outputs and rate or annotate responses for quality.
- Collaborate remotely with other language experts and project stakeholders.
Requirements
All of the following are required for this role. We do not accept substitutions for stated core qualifications.
- Native or near‑native proficiency in Kinyarwanda.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills in Kinyarwanda.
- Strong reading comprehension and analytical ability in Kinyarwanda and English.
- Experience in translation, editing, or linguistics involving Kinyarwanda.
- Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.
- Familiarity with digital tools and language technology platforms.
Helpful background (preferred)
These qualifications are not required but will help you succeed and may make you more competitive for this work.
- Experience as an AI language trainer or contributor to natural language processing projects.
- Background in education, linguistics, localization, or related fields.
Compensation & work setup
This is a remote contractor engagement paid hourly. The pay range for the role is $40 to $95 per hour as stated in the project details.
You will typically log work on a flexible schedule but should be prepared to commit at least 20 hours per week.
- Pay: $40–$95 per hour (hourly contractor).
- Work location: Fully remote; worldwide applicants welcome.
- Employment types: Contractor, part‑time.
