About AI Training and Code Evaluation

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. In code-focused projects, experienced contributors review generated programs, explanations, debugging work, and reasoning so models can produce more accurate, secure, maintainable, and useful software.

  • Evaluate AI-generated code and model responses
  • Use project rubrics to assess correctness and quality
  • Provide human feedback that helps improve future AI behavior
  • Work remotely with distributed technical teams

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a JavaScript Quality Assurance Lead to review AI-generated JavaScript code and trainer QA work. You will assess correctness, reasoning quality, runtime behavior, debugging accuracy, readability, maintainability, performance, security awareness, test coverage, formatting, instruction-following, and rubric alignment.

This hourly, remote contractor role also includes identifying recurring quality issues, communicating workflow changes, maintaining project documentation, supporting onboarding, and helping activate contributors who are not working consistently. The role is focused on JavaScript AI training projects and quality leadership across distributed technical teams.

  • Experience level: Intermediate
  • Employment type: Part-time contractor
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Language: English
  • Location: United States
  • Pay: $70 USD per hour

What You'll Do

You will combine hands-on JavaScript expertise with structured quality leadership. Your reviews should be precise, consistent, and grounded in project-specific guidelines and rubrics.

  • Review AI-generated JavaScript code, debugging responses, implementation explanations, algorithmic solutions, frontend and backend snippets, tests, and step-by-step reasoning.
  • Evaluate trainer and QA submissions against project guidelines and project-specific rubrics.
  • Provide clear feedback on code correctness, asynchronous logic, browser versus Node.js differences, security, performance, and readability.
  • Maintain style guides, trackers, FAQs, honeypots, calibration tasks, onboarding materials, and other quality documentation.
  • Communicate updates and quality expectations to trainers and QAs, including recurring issue patterns and workflow changes.
  • Support onboarding and training for remote contributors and help keep contributor activity aligned with project needs.

Required Skills and Experience

Applicants should have strong JavaScript knowledge and professional experience in JavaScript development, code review, software QA, technical mentoring, or related workflows. Strong English communication is essential for written technical feedback and remote team coordination.

  • Strong JavaScript expertise, including closures, scope, hoisting, prototypes, promises, async and await, event loop behavior, modules, DOM manipulation, and error handling.
  • Ability to identify incorrect logic, non-executable code, missing edge cases, insecure recommendations, and incomplete explanations.
  • Experience giving structured written feedback on technical work.
  • Familiarity with code review, software QA, or technical mentoring workflows.
  • Comfort using common JavaScript tools and environments such as Node.js, React, Vue, Express, Jest, Mocha, Playwright, ESLint, Prettier, GitHub, and project trackers.
  • Strong English communication skills for remote collaboration.

Helpful Background

The following experience is helpful for success in this quality leadership role, though it is presented as preferred background rather than a required qualification.

  • Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, reviewers, engineers, technical writers, or QAs.
  • Experience with AI training, data annotation, prompt or response evaluation, code content QA, or rubric-based LLM evaluation.
  • Familiarity with maintaining calibration tasks, documentation standards, and workflow quality processes.
  • Background in AI training, LLM evaluation, or rubric-based quality review.
