About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people who build careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors find specialized projects, consolidate proof-of-work, and grow a durable freelance portfolio that demonstrates real impact on how AI models behave.

  • Work fully remote and build a visible profile that showcases your AI training experience.
  • OpenTrain connects you with technical evaluation and annotation work across the fast-growing AI training industry.

About AI training for code

AI training (data labeling/annotation) is the human side of creating reliable AI. For coding-specific projects, contributors evaluate AI-generated code, identify logic and edge-case errors, and produce clear solutions and explanations that teach models to reason better. This work directly shapes how coding models write, explain, and debug code.

  • You will apply software engineering judgment to teach models correctness, clarity, and maintainability.
  • Many projects are flexible, part-time, and accessible if you have domain expertise and strong communication skills.

The role

OpenTrain is hiring a JavaScript AI Training Engineer to review AI-generated JavaScript code and explanations, produce improved responses, and evaluate reasoning quality across competing outputs. This is an hourly, remote contractor role focused on high-quality technical feedback for AI training and model evaluation.

  • Labeling task types: RLHF, evaluation rating, and prompt-response writing (SFT).
  • Employment type: contractor, part-time; estimated ~20+ hours/week for 1–3 months with flexible scheduling.

What you'll do

Your main focus is assessing correctness and pedagogy in model-generated JavaScript and delivering improved, well-explained answers that teaching signals can use. Work emphasizes accuracy, clarity, adherence to prompts, and practical debugging of async and stateful behavior.

  • Review AI-generated JavaScript for correctness, readability, performance, and edge cases.
  • Write improved solutions and pedagogical explanations showing correct methods and trade-offs.
  • Compare multiple model responses and rate them by reasoning quality and accuracy.
  • Identify logic errors, conceptual mistakes, and edge-case failures.
  • Validate frontend and backend JavaScript behavior, including async patterns and state management.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the stated technical and communication requirements below. All listed facts come from the role description; we do not require specific tooling beyond what is listed.

  • 2+ years of professional JavaScript experience in production environments.
  • Deep knowledge of closures, async/await, prototype-based inheritance, and the JavaScript event loop.
  • Strong code review skills and experience evaluating technical correctness.
  • Excellent English writing ability for clear, concise, and educational explanations.
  • Hands-on experience with React, Node.js, or another major JavaScript framework or runtime.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field.
  • Prior AI data training, annotation, or AI-generated technical content evaluation is a strong plus.
  • Specific tasks you'll perform include explaining closures/async/event loop, diagnosing edge cases, reviewing React/Node behavior, and validating LLM-generated code suggestions critically.

Helpful background

The following experiences are valuable and increase the chances of success, but they are not strictly required unless noted in the Requirements section.

  • Contributions or merged PRs in JavaScript or TypeScript open-source projects.
  • Familiarity with bundlers and tooling such as Webpack, Vite, or Rollup.
  • Experience reviewing typed API layers, DTOs, or schema-driven designs.
  • Background in frontend-backend integration and debugging async JavaScript behavior.

Schedule, pay, and locations

This is fully remote contractor work for part-time hours. The typical workload is about 20 hours per week over 1–3 months with flexible scheduling. Language of work is English.

  • Hourly pay tiers: up to $25, $35, or $60 depending on country variant; the listing indicates rates up to $60/hr.
  • Target countries include: VN, TL, TH, SG, PK, PH, NP, MY, LK, KH, ID, BT, BD, IN, BR, DE, US (worldwide=false).
  • Employment types: CONTRACTOR and PART_TIME.

How it works

Apply via your OpenTrain profile and demonstrate relevant JavaScript experience and writing samples when requested. Tasks typically involve short evaluation sessions and written feedback that become part of a training dataset. High-quality, consistent evaluations help models improve and build your portfolio on the platform.

  • Work is hourly and task-driven; expect to review examples, write improved responses, and submit ratings or annotations in an online interface.
  • Clear, concise, pedagogical writing in English is essential for accepted submissions.
  • Deliverables include annotated ratings, corrected code samples, and short technical explanations suitable for model training.
