The Role
OpenTrain is seeking an intermediate Java Quality Assurance Lead to review AI-generated Java code and trainer QA work across Java AI training projects. You will evaluate work against project guidelines, provide precise written feedback, monitor contributor quality, and help maintain standards for correctness, maintainability, security, test coverage, and clear technical explanation.
This contractor role also supports Java-specific review workflows, documentation, onboarding materials, and quality process improvements for remote technical teams. The role is available to candidates in the United States who can communicate clearly in English.

What You'll Do
You will combine hands-on Java expertise with structured quality evaluation. Your reviews will help identify technical issues, improve contributor consistency, and support high-quality AI training data.
- Review AI-generated Java code, Spring backend snippets, debugging responses, tests, architecture explanations, and step-by-step reasoning.
- Check compile-time validity, runtime behavior, object-oriented design, API usage, debugging accuracy, readability, performance, security, and formatting.
- Spot-check contributor work and escalate recurring issues.
- Help keep review guidelines consistent across Java AI training projects.
- Maintain Java style guides, FAQs, examples, calibration tasks, honeypots, trackers, and onboarding materials.
- Support onboarding, training, and quality communication for remote Java contributors.
- Help improve Java-specific review workflows and quality processes.
Required Qualifications
This role requires strong Java fundamentals and the ability to assess technical work carefully and consistently. Experience in Java development, backend engineering, code review, software QA, or technical mentoring is required.
- Strong knowledge of Java collections, generics, streams, lambdas, exceptions, concurrency, annotations, and JVM behavior.
- Experience reviewing Java code for correctness, readability, maintainability, and security.
- Background in Java development, backend engineering, software QA, code review, or technical mentoring.
- Clear written technical feedback and collaboration in English.
- Familiarity with Spring Boot and Java build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
Preferred Experience
The following experience is preferred or considered a strong plus for this role. It can help you evaluate a broader range of Java responses and contribute effectively to remote technical workflows.
