About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people discover and apply to language and annotation projects, build a unified portfolio of AI training work, and grow a durable freelance career in this fast-growing field.

Why AI training matters

AI models learn from examples people create and review. Contributors who translate, annotate, evaluate, and edit real language data directly shape how systems understand and generate text in underrepresented languages like Hmong.

This kind of work is often fully remote, flexible, and accessible: many projects need strong language skills rather than prior engineering experience, and contributors have an outsized impact on model quality and cultural relevance.

About the role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Hmong language AI trainer to improve Hmong language performance across AI systems. This contractor position focuses on translation, review, editing, evaluation of AI outputs, and building language resources such as glossaries and style guides.

Work is remote and language-focused; you will collaborate with AI development teams and annotation projects to ensure Hmong outputs are accurate, natural, and culturally appropriate.

What you'll do

  • Translate, review, and edit content to and from Hmong with high linguistic accuracy.
  • Provide guidance on Hmong grammar, syntax, register, and usage for language projects.
  • Evaluate AI-generated Hmong outputs for clarity, context, and cultural relevance.
  • Support data annotation and linguistic analysis focused on Hmong language nuances.
  • Contribute to glossaries, style guides, and other Hmong language resources.
  • Collaborate with AI teams to refine model behavior on Hmong-language tasks.

Requirements

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Hmong (required).
  • Strong editing, proofreading, and translation skills between Hmong and English.
  • Demonstrated experience in linguistic analysis and technical language work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to give constructive feedback remotely.
  • Experience with AI, machine learning, or language data annotation is highly desirable.

Helpful background

Candidates with a degree in Linguistics, Translation, or a related field, or prior experience as an AI language trainer or on technology/localization projects are especially well-suited.

Familiarity with industry-standard linguistic tools and working with glossaries, style guides, and annotation platforms is a plus but not strictly required.

Pay, hours, and how to apply

This is a remote contractor position, part-time, with a typical commitment of 20+ hours per week. Hourly pay ranges from $40 to $95 per hour.

Work is language-focused and can be done from most locations (worldwide). The role uses text data and includes tasks labeled TRANSLATION_LOCALIZATION, EVALUATION_RATING, and DATA_COLLECTION.

To apply, create or use your OpenTrain profile, confirm your language skills and availability, and submit your application to the listing. OpenTrain lets you showcase relevant samples, glossaries, or prior annotation work when you apply.
