About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building modern artificial intelligence. Experts create realistic examples, write reference responses, and evaluate model outputs so AI systems can perform more reliably in specialized professional settings.

This project applies that work to higher education, where strong evaluations must reflect institutional complexity, stakeholder diversity, academic judgment, and the high stakes of university decision-making.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a senior higher education professional to design evaluation tasks for AI systems operating in large universities and higher education institutions. You will create realistic scenarios, draft reference outputs, and author rubrics that capture how senior faculty members and university administrators think.

The work is calibrated to large research universities and higher education systems, including academic programs, governance, enrollment, research administration, institutional advancement, and operational planning.

  • Remote contract opportunity
  • Pay rate: $60–$70 per hour
  • The role description states a commitment of 40 hours per week; the structured listing specifies 20+ hours per week
  • Worldwide opportunity
  • English-language work

What You'll Do

You will build text-based generation and evaluation tasks that test authentic higher education reasoning rather than generic academic or policy-manual recall. Your work may include scenarios, reference academic plans, accreditation documentation, administrator communications, and board-level communications.

  • Construct scenarios involving curriculum and program design, faculty senate or accreditation review, and complex budget or enrollment planning cycles.
  • Create tasks covering academic program development, student affairs and retention, research administration and grant compliance, faculty governance, and institutional advancement and fundraising.
  • Develop higher education operations scenarios involving Banner or Workday Student, Canvas or Blackboard, admissions and advancement CRM platforms, and research administration systems such as Cayuse and InfoEd.
  • Apply accreditation standards, shared governance models, learning outcomes assessment, and enrollment management strategy to task development.
  • Author rubrics that distinguish authentic higher education judgment from generic recall.

Required Qualifications

This role requires substantial experience inside higher education institutions and direct ownership of consequential academic or operational priorities. The structured listing identifies the opportunity as entry level, but the role description requires senior-level professional experience; applicants should review these requirements carefully.

  • At least 5 years working as faculty, an academic administrator, or in a senior operational role at a college, university, or higher education system.
  • Direct ownership of academic programs, enrollment and retention initiatives, research administration, or institutional strategic priorities.
  • Fluency in higher education tools and frameworks, including accreditation, shared governance, learning outcomes assessment, and enrollment management.
  • Practical understanding of university budgets, accreditation compliance, and how shared governance operates.
  • Experience with Banner or Workday Student, Canvas or Blackboard, admissions CRMs, advancement CRMs, Cayuse, or InfoEd.
  • Ability to author rubrics that distinguish authentic university judgment from generic recall.

A Strong Fit For This Project

This opportunity is designed for higher education professionals who can translate real institutional decision-making into clear, challenging evaluation tasks. Prior rubric writing, curriculum design, or faculty-training content authorship is a plus.

Your experience may come from faculty leadership, academic administration, enrollment and retention, research administration, institutional strategy, or senior higher education operations.

  • Senior faculty and academic administrators
  • Higher education operations leaders
  • Professionals with academic program or enrollment ownership
  • Research administration and grant compliance leaders
  • Higher education experts familiar with institutional systems and governance
