We make specialized AI training work easier to track, apply for, and grow into a durable freelance career.

About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting for a German Scientific AI Safety Evaluator to help improve the safety and quality of advanced AI models. You will create expert-level prompts in German across specialized scientific topics, evaluate model responses for scientific accuracy and helpfulness, and classify prompts and conversations using structured guidelines. The work focuses on responsible handling of sensitive and dual-use information across chemistry, biology, radiological and nuclear science, and related technical areas.

What you will do
- Write expert-level prompts in German covering specialized scientific subjects
- Review AI-generated responses for scientific accuracy, helpfulness, and safe handling of sensitive content
- Annotate and classify prompts and conversations according to structured evaluation guidelines
- Apply scientific judgment to technical content involving chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear topics
- Contribute focused expertise from a specific scientific subfield rather than broad general coverage

Required skills
- Ongoing or completed PhD in chemistry, biology, or a closely related scientific discipline
- Native or near-native German proficiency and business-level written English
- Deep familiarity with modern laboratory and computational techniques in a scientific subfield
- Strong scientific judgment concerning safety, security, and dual-use information
- Ability to write precise technical prompts and assess the quality of specialized model responses
- Relevant expertise may include organic or inorganic synthesis, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, genetics, radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, energetic materials, or radiation physics

Helpful background
Experience with chemical safety and security, biosafety and biosecurity, hazardous-materials handling, or reviewing, grading, and red-teaming technical content is helpful. Radiological and nuclear expertise from a chemistry background is also welcome.

Work arrangement
This is remote freelance work with a default commitment of 7 hours per week. Applicants based in Germany or wider Western Europe are preferred, and applicants elsewhere are welcome.

Compensation
The rate is $58‑$62 per hour.
