About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people discover projects, build a unified AI-training portfolio, and grow freelance careers working on the human side of AI.

We hire and contract contributors directly — creating an OpenTrain account is free and connects you to flexible, remote work shaping how modern AI systems behave.

About AI Training Work

AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human effort behind how models learn: people prepare, review, and evaluate examples so systems can improve. This work is remote, flexible, and accessible — many projects need no prior experience, while specialist roles pay more for domain knowledge.

As a German Audio QA Specialist you’ll be on the cutting edge of evaluation datasets that measure multilingual, multi-speaker AI systems, directly influencing model quality and behavior.

The Role

You will serve as the final quality assurance checkpoint for a dataset of multi-channel German audio and human-validated transcriptions. Your reviews will confirm audio fidelity, channel isolation, timestamp precision, speaker diarization, metadata accuracy, and adherence to verbatim transcription rules.

This is a fully remote, part-time contractor assignment lasting 8 weeks, with an expected workload of 20+ hours per week. You will perform detailed, pass/fail quality decisions and provide actionable feedback to maintain strict accuracy targets.

What You'll Do

Perform fine-grained QA on multi-channel audio files and their validated transcriptions, ensuring the recordings and metadata meet stringent technical and accuracy standards.

  • Evaluate channel isolation and confirm recordings were captured in quiet environments free from disruptive noise, clipping, or low gain.
  • Compare human-validated transcripts to recordings to meet low word-error-rate targets while preserving unnormalized, verbatim speech (overlaps, false starts, interruptions).
  • Validate turn-level and word-level timestamps and speaker identification, especially for overlapping dialogue.
  • Read and validate JSON-formatted data to confirm timestamp logic and metadata integrity.
  • Audit metadata for demographic markers, contextual domains, and conversational tags; flag PII, toxic, or sensitive content and enforce safety/privacy standards.
  • Assign clear pass/fail or agree/disagree statuses and provide detailed, actionable feedback for incorrect items.

Requirements

Candidates must meet all core requirements — we will rely on these skills daily in QA tasks and when making final dataset decisions.

  • Native-level proficiency in German (required).
  • Exceptional ear for audio fidelity; able to detect subtle background noises, channel bleed, or clipping.
  • Meticulous attention to detail for verifying word-level timestamps and strict verbatim transcription rules.
  • Ability to assess complex multi-speaker dynamics and overlapping speech accurately.
  • Comfort reading and validating JSON-formatted metadata and timestamp logic.
  • Available for ~20+ hours per week for the full 8-week contract period.
  • This is an entry-level role in terms of prior industry experience, but it requires specialist listening and transcription skills.

Ideal Background

The following backgrounds are a strong fit but not strictly required if you can demonstrate required skills during review tasks.

  • Linguist or phonetics expert familiar with natural, unnormalized speech patterns and conversational dynamics.
  • Language teacher with native-level mastery of German and experience applying verbatim transcription conventions.
  • Professional transcriptionist with rigorous timestamping experience and a track record of meeting strict accuracy targets.

Engagement Details & Next Steps

This opportunity is contracted through OpenTrain and will run for 8 weeks as a part-time contractor assignment. You will work remotely and may contribute to projects that evaluate multilingual, multi-speaker AI systems.

To apply, create a free OpenTrain account, complete your profile, and submit your application. Provide examples or notes highlighting your German transcription/timestamping experience and familiarity with JSON when possible.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
  • Duration: 8 weeks.
  • Time requirement: Approximately 20+ hours per week.
  • Languages required: German (native-level).
