About AI Training Work
AI training is the human work behind modern artificial intelligence. Contributors create demonstrations, review results, and define evaluation standards that help AI systems learn how people use software and complete complex tasks.
In this role, your FreeCAD expertise will help produce high-quality examples and objective assessments for computer-use AI systems.
Work on cutting-edge computer-use AI development
Apply real engineering judgment to AI training data
Work remotely with flexible hours
The Role
OpenTrain AI is recruiting a FreeCAD Computer-Use AI Training Specialist to create expert demonstrations and objective evaluation data for computer-use AI systems. You will design realistic parametric CAD tasks, complete them in FreeCAD, capture action sequences and interface states, preserve relevant files before and after the work, and define repeatable criteria for evaluating results.
Role type: Part-time contractor
Experience level: Entry level
Subject area: Parametric CAD model evaluation
Advertised pay: Up to $20 per hour
Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
What You'll Do
You will create realistic CAD tasks and complete them in FreeCAD while preserving engineering intent in the model tree. You will also document reproducible workflows in clear English and evaluate whether demonstrations and submitted traces meet detailed technical standards.
Create task briefs from dimensioned drawings and spreadsheet-driven parameters
Build parts, sketches, assemblies, drawings, and other FreeCAD deliverables
Work with TechDraw sheets, manufacturing preparation, and geometry exchange workflows
Record complete demonstrations, including the sequence of actions and interface state
Define dimensional and structural success criteria
Review traces for realism, completeness, step-to-action mapping, and model quality
Troubleshoot constraint-solver failures, broken feature references, and problematic geometry
Keep recordings free of personal information and confidential geometry
Use approved applications and complete the work using your own expertise
Requirements
This role requires practical mechanical CAD expertise and strong FreeCAD proficiency. You should be able to create robust parametric models, diagnose modeling problems, and explain technical workflows clearly enough for another person to reproduce them.
Experience in mechanical design, product development, manufacturing engineering, or a comparable CAD-focused role
Genuine proficiency in FreeCAD Sketcher and Part Design
Strong parametric modeling fundamentals and robust feature-tree practices
Experience creating models from dimensioned drawings and spreadsheet-driven parameters
Ability to diagnose constraint-solver failures, broken feature references, and non-manifold or self-intersecting geometry
Working knowledge of at least two additional FreeCAD workbenches, such as Assembly, TechDraw, Draft, Spreadsheet, FEM, or CAM/Path
Familiarity with STEP, IGES, BREP, STL, and mesh workflows
Ability to apply objective CAD verification rubrics consistently
Clear written English at B2 level or higher
Ability to run FreeCAD and screen-recording software on Windows 11, Ubuntu X11, or macOS
