Why AI training and spreadsheet QA matters
AI models learn from examples and human review. Spreadsheet and formula correctness matters because many AI outputs are used to automate analysis, financial decisions, and reporting.
Working in AI training is remote, flexible, and accessible: you can take part-time work, coach others, and directly improve how models handle numerical reasoning and spreadsheet workflows.
The role
You will be the Excel Quality Assurance Lead reviewing AI-generated formulas, models, and trainer QA work to ensure correctness, clarity, and reproducibility. This is a part-time contractor position requiring 20+ hours per week, English fluency, and availability for US-based remote contributors.
Pay is hourly at $55 USD/hour. You will work with contributors, create documentation, run onboarding and calibration sessions, and escalate recurring quality issues into improved QA processes.
Employment: Contractor, Part-time
Hours: 20+ hours/week
Location: Remote (United States only)
Language: English required
Pay: $55/hr (hourly)
What you'll do
Your day-to-day work will focus on evaluating spreadsheet outputs and supporting contributors to raise standards across projects. You will provide clear, actionable feedback and help shape project guidelines.
Evaluate trainer and QA output against project guidelines, rubrics, and quality standards.
Answer contributor questions about formulas, references, lookup logic, dynamic arrays, pivot tables, Power Query, modeling assumptions, and rubric interpretation.
Create and maintain Excel documentation, style guides, examples, trackers, FAQs, honeypots, and onboarding materials.
Run onboarding and training calls for Excel contributors and support calibration tasks.
Flag misleading analysis, fragile logic, incorrect formulas, and risky business or financial assumptions.
Identify recurring quality gaps and improve QA processes accordingly.
Requirements
We need someone with strong hands-on Excel experience, clear written communication, and prior experience leading or supporting remote contributors or teams.
Strong Excel analysis and spreadsheet QA experience.
Familiarity with advanced Excel functions/tools: XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, FILTER, SORT, UNIQUE, LET, LAMBDA, Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA/macros, Solver, and scenario modeling.
Clear written communication in English.
Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, analysts, reviewers, finance professionals, educators, or QAs.
Highly organized approach to trackers, FAQs, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials.
Helpful background
The following backgrounds are helpful but not strictly required. They describe the kinds of domain knowledge that accelerate impact in this role.
Degree or equivalent experience in finance, accounting, business, data analytics, economics, statistics, operations, or information systems.
Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, spreadsheet QA, or rubric-based review.
How it works — labeling and deliverables
The role centers on reviewing text-based deliverables and evaluator outputs: you will rate and comment on spreadsheet explanations, formulas, and QA judgments. Labeling work is text-focused and uses rubric-driven evaluation.
Labeling types for this role include evaluation ratings and question-answering style feedback. All substantive project details, guidelines, and onboarding materials will be provided once you begin.
Data type: Text (spreadsheet formulas, explanations, QA notes)
Label types: Evaluation rating and question answering
Work will follow project-specific rubrics and documentation you help create and maintain
