About AI training and this work
AI training (data labeling, annotation, and human feedback) is the human side of building modern AI. Teams rely on accurate transcriptions and detailed linguistic analysis to teach speech and language models how to understand tone, intent, grammar, and context.
As a contributor you’ll do real, impactful language work — on video content — that directly informs model behavior. Many projects are remote and flexible, making this a practical way to earn while developing highly sought-after skills.
- This role focuses on video data: verbatim transcription plus advanced language evaluation.
- Work influences model understanding of emotion, register, syntax, and meaning.
The role
We are recruiting an English Language Transcription and Linguistic Analysis Expert on a contract basis to perform detailed transcription and linguistic annotation of video content. You will combine transcription accuracy with higher-level language analysis to capture what is said and how it is said.
- Position type: Contractor, part-time or flexible; remote.
- Data type: Video. Labeling tasks: TRANSCRIPTION and EVALUATION_RATING using a custom/other annotation tool.
What you'll do
Produce precise, timestamped verbatim transcripts and add linguistic annotations describing tone, intent, register and contextual meaning. Your work will include both surface-level transcription and analytic descriptions that explain nuanced language use in media.
- Transcribe video content accurately with detailed timestamps throughout each file.
- Analyze and describe speakers’ emotional tone, intent, delivery, and register.
- Evaluate grammatical structures, syntax, and overall language usage.
- Define and explain nuanced conceptual aspects of English vocabulary and phrases as presented in media.
- Perform advanced linguistic assessments including tone, register, and contextual meaning.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure annotation consistency and quality.

You must meet all listed requirements below to be considered. These are non-negotiable for delivering the level of linguistic detail this project needs.

- Proven experience in transcription, linguistic annotation, or similar language-focused roles.
- Acute attention to detail and precision when transcribing and annotating audiovisual material.
- Ability to capture speaker emotion, grammar, and tone succinctly and accurately.
- Strong organizational skills and commitment to meeting project deadlines.
- Minimum weekly commitment: description lists 15 hours minimum, and the role indicates typical needs of 20+ hours/week; be prepared for at least 15–20+ hrs/week.
Helpful background (preferred)
These qualifications are not strictly required but will help your application stand out and may lead to higher pay or priority for assignments.
- Advanced degree in Linguistics, English, or a related field.
- Experience with language technology tools, linguistic research projects, or multimedia language analysis.
- Previous work analyzing complex language datasets or annotating video-based speech content.
