About OpenTrain
OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors find projects, consolidate work across platforms, and grow an AI-training portfolio that they control.
Using OpenTrain you join a fast-growing industry where everyday contributions shape how AI understands and speaks real languages.
Why AI training work matters
AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human side of AI—people prepare and correct examples models learn from. This role contributes to speech datasets that improve recognition, synthesis, and conversational behavior.
These projects are typically fully remote, flexible, and accessible: many contributors start with no prior AI experience and build toward specialist work over time.
The role
OpenTrain is recruiting for an English (India) Recording Specialist to review machine-generated transcriptions and produce clean, natural audio recordings for speech-model training. This is an entry-level contractor position suited to someone comfortable working independently from a quiet space with a laptop microphone.
Work is part-time contract work with a typical commitment of 20+ hours per week and pay of $30–$40 per hour.
What you'll do
You will combine careful transcription correction with voice recording. Follow project guidelines to produce consistent, high-quality text and audio samples used to train speech and language models.
- Review machine-generated English (India) transcriptions for errors and inconsistencies.
- Edit and correct text so it reads with native-level fluency and authentic regional voice.
- Record yourself reading the final transcription using a laptop microphone.
- Deliver clear, natural, and expressive voice recordings that follow project guidelines.
- Maintain audio clarity and data quality on every submission.
- Provide feedback on recorded content to help improve data collection processes.
- Follow confidentiality, privacy, and security procedures throughout the work.
Requirements
These requirements are mandatory and come directly from the project scope. Please ensure you meet them before applying.
- Native proficiency in English as spoken in India.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to recognize and correct transcription errors efficiently.
- Comfort recording high-quality audio with a standard laptop microphone.
- Access to a quiet recording environment free from background noise.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to follow technical guidelines precisely.
- Commitment to maintaining data privacy and security standards.
Helpful background (not required)
Candidates with prior audio or speech-related experience may ramp up faster, but no prior AI experience is required.
- Previous experience as a recording specialist, voice artist, or similar audio role.
- Familiarity with speech transcription, voice-over, or linguistic data projects.
- Understanding of regional dialects, accents, and pronunciation variations within Indian English.
Pay, schedule, and contract details
Compensation is hourly at $30–$40 per hour (paid per hour). This is a contractor, part-time role requiring roughly 20+ hours per week. Work is remote and can be completed from anywhere with the required skills and environment.
- Payment type: hourly (contractor).
- Expected time: 20+ hours/week.
- Employment: contractor, part-time.
