About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Scientific experts help models improve by creating challenging examples, evaluating generated work, and judging whether an answer is supported by sound reasoning and evidence.
Work on cutting-edge AI systems
Use your professional expertise to shape model behavior
Support evaluation based on substance, evidence, and reasoning
The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a Drug Discovery AI Evaluation Scientist to design realistic research challenges for frontier AI models working in drug research and development. You will create evidence-rich scientific scenarios where the correct conclusion must be reasoned from incomplete, indirect, and sometimes misleading information rather than recalled or found through a simple lookup.
The work combines advanced drug discovery knowledge with rigorous evaluation of model reasoning. Each challenge should support one defensible conclusion and test whether a strong solver can follow the underlying scientific logic.
Category: Generative AI evaluation
Work arrangement: Remote, worldwide
Experience level: Entry level listing with advanced subject-matter requirements
Language: English
Engagement: Part-time contractor
What You'll Do
You will develop research problems, supporting evidence, and grading materials that distinguish genuine scientific reasoning from pattern matching or unsupported answers. Completed work will go through verification and calibration before submission, with revisions made when review identifies necessary changes.
Design research problems around hidden scientific mechanisms and forcing chains that support one defensible conclusion.
Assemble a data room from real, source-grounded evidence so every decisive value can be traced to its source.
Write grading documents that assess a submitted memo on scientific substance rather than style or method.
Run verification and calibration before submitting completed work.
Revise completed work when review identifies changes that are needed.
Required Qualifications
This role requires advanced drug discovery expertise and the ability to judge both the quality and difficulty of scientific reasoning. A PhD or equivalent industry track record is required in a relevant scientific field.
Working expertise in mechanistic enzymology, structure-guided peptide or antibody design, fragment-based discovery, or structure-based medicinal chemistry
PhD or equivalent industry track record in a relevant drug discovery field
Ability to build rigorous research problems from incomplete and indirect scientific evidence
Ability to construct challenges that strong solvers cannot answer through pattern matching or simple lookup
Ability to evaluate scientific reasoning and defend judgments about content and difficulty
Helpful Background and Tools
Experience with scientific evidence synthesis, medicinal chemistry research, mechanistic analysis, or evaluation of technical written work can support success in this role. The work uses a browser-based studio, open-source scientific tooling, and Claude Code.
