The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Data Center Engineering Review Expert to strengthen complex AI training tasks based on realistic engineering, permitting, and construction scenarios. You will apply professional AEC judgment to technical task materials and help ensure that expected outputs, grading methods, and quality checks are accurate and practical.

The work combines multidisciplinary engineering review with careful validation of task prompts, supporting artifacts, rubrics, and programmatic checks. This is a part-time contractor opportunity for less than 20 hours per week, available worldwide, with work conducted in English.

What You'll Do

You will review technical tasks and supporting materials for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and alignment with real-world data-center and mission-critical engineering practice. You will evaluate both the technical content and the way each task is designed to assess an AI system.

Your reviews may span structural and civil design, geotechnical inputs, foundations and slabs, wind and seismic analysis, rooftop equipment loads, building codes, AHJ requirements, drawing packages, BIM coordination, and constructability.

You will produce clear technical findings, improve task materials, and validate corrected tasks from end to end.

• Check engineering assumptions, calculations, governing criteria, and code interpretation
• Review document precedence and coordination across engineering disciplines
• Evaluate drawings, models, specifications, schedules, calculations, and technical registers
• Identify ambiguous assumptions, conflicting source documents, missing constraints, and unrealistic deliverables
• Improve task prompts, supporting artifacts, acceptance criteria, rubrics, and programmatic checks
• Explain technical issues clearly and validate revised tasks through completion

Requirements

You should bring professional experience supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, or comparably complex building and infrastructure projects. Strong command of applicable U.S. building codes, engineering standards, and AHJ requirements is required.

At least two years of relevant professional experience is typically expected. The role is listed at the entry level, while its responsibilities require specialized engineering knowledge and careful professional judgment.

• Experience reviewing structural, civil, geotechnical, BIM, and construction documentation
• Ability to interpret large document sets, calculations, specifications, drawings, models, schedules, and technical registers
• Ability to identify ambiguous assumptions, conflicting documents, and unrealistic deliverables
• Precise written communication and clear explanation of technical findings

Helpful Background

Relevant experience may include structural engineering, civil or site engineering, geotechnical engineering, code consulting, engineering of record work, design management, project architecture, BIM or VDC management, or construction engineering.

PE, SE, or RA credentials are helpful where relevant, as is experience with a multidisciplinary AEC, design, or consulting engineering firm.
