OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect contributors with a variety of annotation projects, let you consolidate your work history in a single portfolio, and help you grow a durable freelance career in a fast‑moving industry.
For this role, you will contract directly with OpenTrain AI on project work that supports real-world datasets used to train and evaluate machine learning systems.
About AI Training Work (Why this matters)
AI systems learn from examples prepared and reviewed by people. Data annotation—labeling text, images, audio, and more—is how human expertise shapes model behavior. This work is often remote, flexible, and accessible to contributors with strong attention to detail.
As a contributor you’ll be part of the human side of building AI: your annotations and feedback help models perform reliably and safely on real tasks.
The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a Data Annotation Generalist to analyze and label English text for classification projects. You will follow detailed project guidelines, resolve ambiguous cases with project leads, document edge cases, and provide feedback to improve annotation processes and quality control.
What You’ll Do
Annotate diverse text examples consistently and accurately for classification tasks.
Follow evolving project guidelines and adapt quickly to new instructions.
Identify and document ambiguous inputs, edge cases, and repeat issues.
Communicate regularly in writing (and verbally when needed) with project leads.
Contribute constructive feedback to help refine annotation procedures and improve dataset quality.
Maintain high attention to detail and meet quality standards on assigned tasks.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience in data annotation or a related field (entry level welcome).
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
High attention to detail and a clear commitment to accuracy.
Ability to adapt to evolving task guidelines and follow detailed instructions.
Comfort working independently in a remote, contractor capacity.
Generalist mindset and willingness to annotate a wide range of text content.
