The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Computational Mathematics AI Problem Designer to create and solve advanced scientific problems for AI training and evaluation. You will combine research-level mathematical judgment with Python-based scientific coding, develop rigorous solution paths, and help maintain high standards through structured review.

This is a fully remote contractor assignment lasting three months. The engagement requires at least 20 hours per week, with available schedules of 20, 30, or 40 hours per week. You must also be available for four hours of daily overlap with Pacific Standard Time. The assignment may be extended based on performance and project needs.

What You'll Do

You will produce original computational mathematics content and assess whether problems and solutions meet demanding standards for correctness, clarity, and logical coherence. The work includes both independent development and participation in a structured review process.

  • Create original research-grade or graduate-level scientific problems in computational mathematics.
  • Develop computational solutions using Python.
  • Verify the accuracy, reliability, and logical coherence of mathematical and computational solutions.
  • Define problem categories, secondary tags, and appropriate difficulty levels.
  • Participate in two-tier reviews of problems and solutions.
  • Incorporate reviewer and team-lead feedback promptly.
  • Refine problem and solution content to maintain high quality.

Requirements

This role requires advanced academic and subject-matter expertise in computational mathematics. The position is listed as entry level, but applicants must meet the specified doctoral-level and publication requirements.

  • PhD or current PhD candidacy in Computational Mathematics.
