About AI Training Work
AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors create examples, evaluate model behavior, and develop structured feedback that helps modern AI systems become more capable and reliable. This role applies that work to complex programming tasks and automated evaluation.
Work on cutting-edge AI systems through technical evaluation
Remote, flexible work that can fit around other commitments
Use specialized programming expertise to influence how AI learns to solve problems
The Role
OpenTrain AI is hiring a Competitive Programming Coder to help train next-generation AI systems by creating reinforcement learning environments for difficult coding problems. You will design custom problems, write reference solutions, build checkers that support multiple valid outputs, and validate participant submissions against complex competitive programming statements.
The work centers on advanced C++ implementation, careful edge-case analysis, and clear documentation. You will also review test cases, refine ambiguous requirements, and provide feedback that improves checker robustness and submission validation.
Contractor, part-time position
20+ hours per week
Worldwide and fully remote
English-language work
Pay: $45–$65 per hour
What You'll Do
You will contribute directly to the design and evaluation infrastructure used for challenging programming problems. Accuracy, maintainability, and consistency are essential because checker logic must correctly handle valid solutions, invalid outputs, and difficult edge cases.
Design and implement checkers for competitive programming problems with multiple valid outputs
Evaluate participant submissions against complex problem statements
Create custom problems, reference solutions, and robust test suites
Write clear, maintainable C++ code for output validation and edge cases
Document checker logic and communicate technical nuances clearly
Review test cases and identify weaknesses in edge-case coverage
Refine ambiguous problem requirements
Collaborate remotely to clarify requirements and improve test cases
Requirements
This is listed as an entry-level opportunity, but the work requires strong technical capability in competitive programming, problem analysis, and C++. You should be comfortable reasoning through complex constraints and producing dependable, well-documented code independently.
Strong competitive programming background and problem analysis skills
Advanced C++ proficiency for implementing checker solutions
Experience designing or reviewing test cases, especially for edge cases
Ability to reason through complex constraints and multiple solution paths
Strong written and verbal communication skills
High attention to detail in code validation and output consistency
Ability to work independently in a remote, collaborative environment
Comfort producing high-quality, well-documented code under tight deadlines
Helpful Background
Experience creating or testing competitive programming content is valuable, particularly when it involves validating multiple solution paths and identifying weaknesses in problem statements or test suites.
Prior experience as a competitive programming problem setter
Background testing or reviewing programming problems
Experience implementing or maintaining output checkers on competitive programming platforms
