The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Civil Litigation AI Training Expert to develop evaluation tasks across US and international civil litigation tracks. You will construct realistic litigation scenarios, draft reference outputs, and author rubrics that distinguish experienced litigation judgment from generic law school or bar exam-level recall.

The work spans complex commercial litigation, class actions, discovery and evidence management, trial advocacy, appellate practice, settlement, and arbitration.

What You'll Do

You will design substantive, realistic tasks that reflect how senior litigators analyze disputes and make decisions at different stages of a matter. Your deliverables will support evaluation of AI-generated litigation work product and reasoning.

• Design scenarios covering pre-trial discovery, motion practice, trial strategy, settlement, and arbitration.
• Build tasks across commercial litigation, complex and class action litigation, discovery and evidence management, trial advocacy, and appellate practice.
• Use litigation tools and methodologies involving e-discovery platforms such as Relativity and Everlaw, along with litigation management and deposition or trial preparation tools.
• Apply US or international procedural standards to create reference pleadings, discovery responses, motions, and trial memoranda.
• Author evaluation rubrics that identify authentic litigation judgment and distinguish it from generic legal recall.

Required Qualifications

This role is intended for an experienced litigator or trial attorney with direct responsibility for complex commercial litigation matters. Candidates should be able to apply procedural rules and litigation methodologies to practical AI evaluation tasks.

• At least 5 years of experience as a litigator or trial attorney at a major litigation firm or in-house litigation department.
• Direct ownership of complex commercial litigation matters with trial or arbitration experience.
• JD with active bar admission, or an international equivalent such as Barrister or Solicitor with advocacy rights, strongly preferred.
• Deep knowledge of the US Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence, or English Civil Procedure Rules and international arbitration rules.
• Fluency in litigation tooling and methodologies, including e-discovery platforms such as Relativity or Everlaw.
• Experience drafting pleadings, discovery responses, and trial memoranda.
• Ability to design AI evaluation tasks and author grading rubrics.
