About AI training work
AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback) is the human side of building modern AI. People prepare and review examples that teach models how to write, reason, and behave.
This role is part of that process: you will evaluate generative AI outputs, rate accuracy and quality, compare responses, and flag safety or policy issues. Work is project-based and typically remote and flexible.
- This industry enables part-time, flexible, remote work that requires attention to detail and good judgment.
- Many projects require no prior AI experience; this one asks for specific language skills and professional experience.
The role
You will work as a contract, part-time AI content annotator focused on Mandarin Chinese. Tasks are primarily text-based and include evaluating model responses, classification, and red-teaming; you may occasionally review images or short videos.
This is project-based freelance work. Task availability varies by project, and you must be available for roughly 20+ hours per week.
- Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
- Time commitment: 20+ hours/week
- Pay: USD 12 per hour
- Work location: Remote, current residence in Singapore required
What you'll do day-to-day
Follow detailed written guidelines to review and rate AI outputs for quality, relevance, and factual accuracy. You will compare responses, write short corrections or alternative answers when requested, and classify or tag content according to project taxonomy.
You will also flag safety, policy, or sensitive-content issues and take part in calibration and ongoing quality checks to maintain labeling accuracy.
- Evaluate and rate text outputs; occasionally review images or videos
- Classify content and apply labels such as classification, evaluation rating, and RLHF annotations
- Write or refine short prompt responses and answers as required by the task
- Identify factual errors and perform fact-checking where instructed
- Flag safety, policy, or sensitive content for review
Requirements
All requirements below come from the project and are mandatory for consideration. You must be legally able to work as an independent contractor/freelancer in Singapore and be currently residing in Singapore.
You should be prepared to pass a language and skills screening, calibration tasks, and ongoing quality checks.
- Native-level Mandarin Chinese (reading, writing, comprehension)
- English proficiency at C1 level or higher
- Bachelor’s degree (any field)
- Minimum 1 year of professional work experience
- Strong critical thinking, fact-checking, and attention to detail
- Comfortable following complex written guidelines and asking clarifying questions
- Willingness to review potentially sensitive or disturbing content when required
- Reliable computer and stable high-speed internet
Who should apply
Apply if you are a native Mandarin speaker with strong written English, have at least a year of professional experience, and want flexible remote work that contributes directly to how generative AI behaves.
This role suits people who enjoy careful review, clear written communication, and working with detailed instructions on quality-sensitive tasks.
- Entry-level experience is acceptable as long as the minimum professional experience and degree requirements are met
- Ideal for freelancers, students, or professionals seeking part-time remote work
How the process works
Create an OpenTrain account and submit your profile. You will complete a language and skills screening specific to the project. Successful candidates will go through calibration tasks and periodic quality reviews during the project.
Because work is project-based, task availability and schedules vary. You will be engaged as an independent contractor and paid per hour at the stated rate.
- Platform: OpenTrain (free account creation)
- Selection steps: application → language/skills screen → calibration → project onboarding
- Payment: USD 12/hour, paid per project contractor terms
