About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors find work, build a unified AI-training portfolio, and grow into durable freelance careers in a fast-growing industry.

We hire and contract specialists directly for AI training projects. This posting is for an OpenTrain AI role focused on chemistry quality assurance.

About AI training and this work

AI training (data labeling, annotation, and human feedback) is the human side of building AI systems: people create, evaluate, and correct examples that teach models how to reason and respond. Contributors work remotely, often on flexible schedules, and directly influence how state-of-the-art AI behaves.

This role centers on reviewing and improving chemistry content used to train and evaluate generative models, with a focus on scientific correctness, clarity, safe recommendations, and rubric-driven evaluation.

The role

You will serve as the Chemistry Quality Assurance Lead, reviewing AI-generated chemistry content and trainer QA work to ensure accuracy, clarity, and safety. You will provide detailed written feedback, maintain and improve documentation, and support onboarding and quality alignment across remote contributors.

  • Position type: Contractor, part-time.
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours per week.
  • Location: Remote (United States only).
  • Language: English required.
  • Pay: $75 USD per hour.

What you'll do

Work closely with remote trainers and QAs to evaluate chemistry responses against project rubrics and guidelines. Your analysis will identify scientific errors, unsafe recommendations, and gaps in explanation or reasoning.

  • Review chemistry responses, calculations, reaction logic, and trainer QA work against detailed rubrics.
  • Identify errors such as incorrect stoichiometry, missing units, flawed assumptions, hallucinated facts, or unsafe lab recommendations.
  • Provide precise, constructive written feedback to contributors and document common failure modes.
  • Maintain and update project materials: style guides, FAQ, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and trackers.
  • Communicate quality updates and workflow changes in remote team channels and support onboarding activities.
  • Flag recurring quality gaps and recommend process or rubric improvements.

Requirements

You must have a strong chemistry background and practical experience evaluating or producing scientific content. Clear English writing is essential for giving high-quality feedback and collaborating with remote teams.

  • Degree or equivalent experience in chemistry, chemical sciences, biochemistry, materials chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in chemistry research, laboratory work, teaching, scientific writing, technical review, quality control, formulation, analytical chemistry, or similar.
  • Strong grasp of general, organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry topics including stoichiometry, spectroscopy, kinetics, equilibrium, and reaction mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with AI training, data annotation, rubric-based LLM evaluation, or scientific content QA.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with remote collaboration tools and documentation workflows.
  • Fluent English for written feedback and team communication.

Who should apply

Apply if you enjoy scientific review, clear technical writing, and helping shape how AI systems reason about chemistry. This role fits researchers, lab scientists, educators, technical reviewers, and quality-control professionals who want part-time remote work with meaningful impact on AI behavior.

How the work is organized

You will work as an OpenTrain-contracted contributor in a remote, rubric-driven workflow. Tasks include evaluating text-based model outputs and trainer QA entries, recording ratings, and drafting feedback and documentation updates.

Expect to collaborate through team channels, complete calibration and honeypot tasks, and participate in onboarding or training checks to keep scoring aligned across contributors.

Compensation, schedule, and application

Pay is $75 USD per hour. This is a contractor, part-time role requiring 20+ hours per week and is open to contributors located in the United States who are fluent in English.

To apply, create a free OpenTrain account, build your profile, and submit your application and any requested examples of relevant chemistry work. OpenTrain is the hiring organization and will manage contracting and onboarding.
