The role
We are hiring a freelance Chemistry LLM Training Expert to produce high-quality training data for fine-tuning and supervised response tasks. You will generate and solve advanced chemistry questions, explain solutions step-by-step, and prepare annotated text and visuals suitable for model training.
This is a contract, part-time role with an expected commitment of 20+ hours per week. Work is remote and conducted in English.
What you'll do
Create rigorous, postgraduate-level chemistry problems and model solutions that combine text, equations, and visuals.
Analyze and explain complex organic reaction mechanisms, showing each mechanistic step and rationale clearly.
Annotate and review content: provide structured feedback, corrections, and meta-comments that improve dataset quality for fine-tuning and SFT tasks.
Write and solve advanced problems in organic, physical, electrochemistry, and stoichiometry.
Produce clear, step-by-step explanations that make difficult concepts accessible.
Design and annotate diagrams, reaction schemes, and chemical structures to accompany text.
Review model outputs and provide detailed, constructive corrections and annotations.
Support both fine-tuning (FINE_TUNING) and supervised prompt/response writing (PROMPT_RESPONSE_WRITING_SFT) label types.
Requirements
You must have expertise equivalent to PhD-level chemistry and be comfortable solving advanced domain problems independently.
Excellent written English comprehension and the ability to communicate complex ideas in clear, structured language are essential.
PhD-level chemistry knowledge or equivalent research depth (required).
Ability to solve advanced organic, physical, and electrochemistry problems.
Skill in writing step-by-step explanations and detailed annotations.
Experience providing constructive feedback on technical content.
Reliable desktop or laptop and stable internet connection for remote collaboration.
Helpful background
Preferred candidates will have academic or research experience such as a PhD or postdoctoral work in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
Comfort creating visuals, chemical structure annotations, and working with mixed media (text + images + equations) is highly useful.
Academic teaching or research experience at postgraduate level.
Prior experience translating research-level chemistry into clear explanations.
Familiarity with preparing materials suitable for machine learning fine-tuning datasets.
