About This Role
We are hiring a Chemical Engineer AI Evaluation Specialist to review advanced AI-generated chemical engineering text. You'll evaluate technical accuracy, logical soundness, unit consistency, safety implications, and professional judgment across typical chemical engineering topics.
This role centers on improving model outputs and prompts so responses better reflect defensible chemical engineering reasoning and safe professional practice.
Work type: remote contract, part-time or flexible project-based workload.
Labeling focus includes evaluation ratings, RLHF-style feedback, and prompt/response writing and refinement.
What You'll Do
You will assess AI responses against engineering standards, flag errors and unsafe guidance, and rewrite or refine prompts and model outputs so they reflect correct assumptions and calculations.
Evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and completeness across material/energy balances, thermodynamics, unit operations, separations, process control, and scale-up.
Challenge models with realistic calculations, scenarios, and process-informed reasoning tasks.
Identify factual errors, flawed assumptions, missing constraints, unit inconsistencies, and unsafe recommendations.
Refine prompts, model responses, explanations, and step-by-step engineering solutions.
Assess model performance on process safety, operability, troubleshooting, phase behavior, and property usage.
Advise when content should be escalated to a licensed engineer or site expert.
Requirements
You must bring hands-on chemical engineering experience and the ability to critique technical reasoning precisely in writing.
4+ years of professional chemical engineering experience.
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related field; advanced degrees, PE, or Chartered status strongly preferred.
Experience in process design, plant/operations engineering, process safety, scale-up, manufacturing, utilities, EHS, quality, R&D, or controls/automation.
Strong knowledge of material & energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat & mass transfer, reaction engineering, separations, unit operations, and process control.
Comfort with engineering calculations, assumptions, constraints, uncertainty, safety factors, and defensible reasoning.
Familiarity with PFDs/P&IDs, Aspen Plus, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, process datasheets, PSM, HAZOP, LOPA, or SOPs is helpful.
Prior AI data training, annotation, red-teaming, or model-evaluation experience is a strong plus.
Compensation & Schedule
This is a remote contract role paid hourly. Pay range: USD $40–$100 per hour (projects vary by scope and specialist qualifications).
Expect a flexible, project-based workload with steady availability during active review periods; the role typically requires 20+ hours per week when projects are active.
