The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an intermediate C Quality Assurance Lead to review AI-generated C code and trainer QA work across C programming AI training projects. You will evaluate technical correctness and rubric adherence while helping contributors improve their work.

This is a remote contractor role with a United States hiring focus, a commitment of 20+ hours per week, and compensation of up to $75 per hour.

What You’ll Do

You will combine hands-on C expertise with structured quality assurance, written feedback, contributor communication, and documentation work. The role includes identifying critical issues and helping maintain consistent standards across AI training projects.

• Review AI-generated C code, debugging responses, pointer and memory examples, algorithmic solutions, tests, and technical explanations.
• Assess compile-time validity, runtime behavior, memory safety, pointer logic, portability, performance, debugging accuracy, readability, formatting, instruction-following, and rubric adherence.
• Identify memory leaks, use-after-free issues, invalid pointer arithmetic, race conditions, and other safety or correctness problems.
• Flag unsafe, misleading, non-compilable, memory-unsafe, or non-production-ready C recommendations.
• Monitor quality, identify recurring issues, escalate critical problems, and provide clear feedback to contributors.
• Support trainer and QA communication, question handling, activation follow-up, and onboarding for C contributors.
• Maintain C style guides, trackers, FAQs, examples, honeypots, calibration tasks, and quality documentation.
• Support onboarding, documentation, and QA workflow improvements.

Required Qualifications

You should have strong practical C expertise and be comfortable reviewing systems-oriented code in detail. Clear written communication is essential because the role involves concise technical feedback and contributor support.

• Strong C expertise with practical experience in systems programming, code review, QA, or technical mentoring.
• Solid understanding of pointers, arrays, memory allocation, structs, function pointers, compilation and linking, undefined behavior, file I/O, bitwise operations, and portability.
• Ability to review AI-generated code for correctness, safety, portability, readability, and production readiness.
• Ability to identify memory leaks, use-after-free issues, invalid pointer arithmetic, race conditions, and related defects.
• Clear English communication skills and comfort giving concise technical feedback.
• Familiarity with QA workflows, rubric-based review, or mentoring technical contributors.

Helpful Technical Background

The following experience is helpful for evaluating code across different environments and supporting reliable QA workflows, but it is not presented as a required qualification.

• Familiarity with GCC, Clang, MSVC, Make, CMake, GDB, LLDB, Valgrind, sanitizers, and embedded toolchains.
• Knowledge of POSIX APIs, unit testing, GitHub, CI/CD, profiling, and static analysis tools.
• Comfort working in Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems.
• Experience leading or supporting remote technical teams.
• Prior AI training and rubric-based code review experience.
