About AI Training Work

AI training is the human work behind modern artificial intelligence. Specialists review model-generated content, identify errors, create high-quality examples, and provide feedback that helps AI systems become more accurate, reliable, and useful.

For technical contributors, this can include evaluating code, comparing model responses, checking explanations, and writing reference solutions. Much of this work is remote and flexible, allowing experienced professionals to contribute to cutting-edge AI projects.

  • Help improve how AI models reason about software and engineering problems
  • Use your professional expertise in a flexible, remote work environment
  • Contribute to the quality and safety of AI-generated technical content

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a C Code Review Engineer to evaluate AI-generated C code, low-level systems designs, and technical explanations. You will assess correctness, clarity, safety, memory handling, concurrency, and performance while producing reference implementations and explanations that demonstrate sound engineering methods.

This is a remote, hourly contractor role with part-time availability and an expected commitment of 20 or more hours per week. The rate is $65 per hour. The role is listed at an intermediate experience level, while the ideal candidate profile calls for strong mid-senior practical experience in C systems or embedded software.

  • Remote contractor position
  • Part-time schedule of 20+ hours per week
  • Pay rate of $65 USD per hour
  • English-language work
  • Open to contractors in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Cambodia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Philippines, the United States, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam

What You'll Do

You will perform detailed technical evaluations of low-level software and model-generated engineering content. Your work will combine careful code review, technical writing, response comparison, and fact-checking.

  • Review AI-generated C code, systems designs, and technical explanations for correctness and safety
  • Identify issues involving memory management, concurrency, performance, and low-level debugging
  • Detect logic errors, undefined behavior, and other subtle problems in systems-level C code
  • Write reference implementations and step-by-step reasoning for complex engineering problems
  • Rate and compare AI responses based on correctness, clarity, and reasoning quality
  • Fact-check technical information and help improve model integrity
  • Explain engineering decisions clearly while following detailed technical guidelines

Required Skills and Experience

This role requires expert-level C programming knowledge and a strong practical understanding of systems software. You should be comfortable investigating difficult low-level issues and explaining why a solution is correct, safe, maintainable, and performant.

  • Expert C programming experience, including pointers, memory management, undefined behavior, and debugging
  • Background in systems programming, embedded development, concurrency, operating systems, and performance optimization
  • Practical experience with build systems, compilers, linkers, and debugging tools
  • Strong code review habits focused on maintainability and safety
  • Clear written English and the ability to follow detailed technical instructions
  • Methodical, detail-oriented evaluation of low-level technical work

Helpful Background

Additional experience can help you evaluate a broader range of C projects and technical responses. Prior AI training experience is not presented as a core requirement, but it is a strong advantage for this work.

  • Experience with version control, CI/CD workflows, and automated testing for C projects
  • Familiarity with hardware interaction and performance-critical software
  • Prior experience with AI data training, annotation, or evaluation
  • Experience evaluating AI-generated technical content

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is well suited to a C specialist who enjoys precise technical evaluation and wants to apply deep systems expertise to AI training. The strongest candidates will be comfortable working independently, reviewing low-level technical work carefully, and communicating complex engineering judgments in clear English.

  • C engineers with systems programming or embedded software experience
  • Technical professionals who enjoy debugging and rigorous code review
  • Reviewers who can spot subtle safety, memory, concurrency, and performance issues
  • Independent contractors able to commit at least 20 hours per week
  • Engineers interested in helping improve the quality of AI-generated code

How to Get Started

Create a free OpenTrain account, build your technical profile, and apply for this project through the platform. If selected, you will work independently as a contractor and follow the project's detailed evaluation guidelines closely.
