About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with projects that teach and evaluate AI — from writing and reviewing model responses to creating datasets used for fine-tuning.

  • OpenTrain hires and contracts directly for this role.
  • Work with a fast-growing industry where your expertise shapes how AI understands scientific problems.

About AI Training Work

AI training (data labeling / human feedback) is the human layer that helps models learn to solve real problems. Contributors create, review, and validate examples that become the basis for model behavior.

This role sits at the intersection of computational biology and AI training: you will author and verify text-based research problems and reproducible validation steps used for model training, evaluation, and fine-tuning.

  • Flexible, remote, part-time work that is project-based and often allows schedule flexibility.
  • Work directly influences how scientific and technical models reason about biological problems.

The Role

You will design and verify original, computationally intensive biology research problems that require non-trivial reasoning and must be solved and validated using Python. Problems should reflect real research workflows in bioinformatics, systems biology, or molecular modeling.

Each problem must include a clear statement, expected outputs, and reproducible verification steps that use standard computational biology libraries. Work is part-time and project-based; hours vary by project phase and are typically 20+ hours per week.

  • Create text-based problem statements and model-answer solutions with reproducible validation code.
  • Produce examples suitable for text generation, evaluation rating, and fine-tuning datasets (data type: TEXT).

What You'll Do

Your day-to-day work will focus on designing realistic research-style problems and demonstrating their solutions with verifiable Python code and analysis.

  • Author original computational biology problems that map to real research workflows (bioinformatics, systems biology, molecular modeling).
  • Provide step-by-step, reproducible verification using Python and standard libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Biopython, and common bioinformatics tools).
  • Include clear input/output specifications, test cases, and example scripts that validate answers.
  • Ensure each problem requires non-trivial reasoning and algorithmic steps representative of research practice.

Requirements

To be considered you must meet the following minimum qualifications and application instructions exactly as listed.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biology or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years professional experience in biology or computational biology.
  • Advanced Python skills, including NumPy, SciPy, and Biopython.
  • Experience analyzing biological data, algorithms, and computational methods.
  • Proficiency with bioinformatics tools and standard computational biology libraries.
  • Hands-on text annotation or review experience and subject-matter familiarity with bioinformatics/computational biology.
  • CV must be submitted in English, state your English proficiency level, and include an email address and phone number.

Schedule, Pay, and Location

This is a contractor, part-time role. Typical project commitment is 20+ hours per week; actual hours will vary by project phase. Compensation is set per project and depends on scope and complexity.

  • Pay: projects may pay between $15 and $60 per hour, with top rates up to $60/hr depending on scope.
  • Employment type: Contractor (part-time), project-based.
  • Work is remote and worldwide except for the restricted locations listed below.

Restricted Locations

Due to acquisition restrictions, candidates located in the following places cannot be accepted for this role. Please do not apply if you reside in any listed location.

  • Countries: Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Syria, Sudan, Venezuela, Myanmar, Russia, Belarus, Palestine, China, Taiwan, Kenya, Switzerland.

How To Apply

Submit a CV in English that indicates your level of English proficiency and includes your email address and phone number. Only applications that include these items will be considered.

  • Include clear contact details (email and phone) and your stated English proficiency level on your CV.
  • Applications will be reviewed for educational background, computational biology experience, and demonstrated Python/bioinformatics skills.
