About AI Training Work

AI training is the human work behind modern artificial intelligence. Contributors review examples, evaluate model outputs, and provide structured feedback that helps AI systems produce more accurate and useful results.

In this project, your Bash and Linux expertise will support code evaluation and quality assurance. Your reviews can help AI models handle shell scripting, automation, debugging, and command-line workflows more safely and accurately.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is hiring an expert Bash Quality Assurance Lead to review AI-generated Bash code and trainer QA work. You will assess correctness, safety, portability, debugging accuracy, and alignment with project rubrics.

This remote contractor role also includes providing precise written feedback, monitoring quality, supporting onboarding, maintaining documentation, and improving consistency across Bash and shell-scripting training projects.

  • Employment type: Contractor and part-time
  • Location: United States only
  • Pay: Up to $65 per hour
  • Estimated workload: About 20 hours per week
  • Expected duration: 1 to 3 months
  • Language: Clear written English

What You’ll Do

You will help maintain high standards for Bash-focused AI training data and contributor work. Your evaluations should be technically precise, safety-conscious, and grounded in project guidelines and rubrics.

  • Review Bash scripts, CLI workflows, automation snippets, debugging responses, and explanations for quality and safety.
  • Check for quoting mistakes, portability problems, destructive commands, missing error handling, and security risks.
  • Evaluate trainer and QA work against project guidelines and rubrics.
  • Identify unsafe commands, poor quoting, non-portable syntax, hallucinated flags, and destructive operations.
  • Share clear feedback with contributors and help resolve recurring quality issues.
  • Support onboarding and maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, examples, honeypots, and calibration materials.
  • Help improve QA processes and contributor consistency.
  • Identify recurring issues and support contributors with Bash-specific review expectations.

Requirements

This is an expert-level review role for someone with strong Bash fundamentals and practical Linux or Unix systems experience. You should be comfortable evaluating both code and the reasoning or explanations surrounding it.

  • Strong Bash or shell scripting background, including quoting, conditionals, loops, functions, pipes, redirection, and exit codes.
  • Experience with Linux or Unix systems.
  • Background in automation, DevOps, systems administration, CI/CD, technical support, or code review workflows.
  • Ability to review scripts for safety issues, portability problems, and destructive command risk.
  • Ability to evaluate AI-generated shell scripts or code QA work against rubrics.
  • Clear written English and strong attention to detail.
  • Comfort using Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, GitHub, dashboards, and project trackers.
  • Experience with AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, code QA, or rubric-based review is a strong plus.

Who Should Apply

This opportunity may suit an experienced Bash reviewer, systems administrator, DevOps professional, technical support specialist, or software engineer who enjoys detailed technical evaluation. It is especially relevant if you can explain code-quality issues clearly and recognize when a shell command could create safety, portability, or security problems.

The work is remote and part time, making it suitable for an expert who wants to contribute to cutting-edge AI development while applying specialized shell-scripting knowledge.

  • You have expert-level Bash and shell-scripting knowledge.
  • You can give precise, constructive written feedback.
  • You are comfortable applying detailed rubrics consistently.
  • You can commit to about 20 hours per week during the expected 1 to 3 month project period.
  • You are based in the United States.
