  • Work connected to the development of language-model technology

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Expert contributors review and evaluate model outputs so developers can understand whether an AI response is accurate, relevant, well-reasoned, and useful.

This role applies professional legal judgment to language-model evaluation. Your assessments and written feedback can help distinguish reliable answers from responses with substantive or contextual weaknesses.

  • Evaluate outputs from modern AI language models
  • Apply subject-matter expertise to structured review tasks
  • Help improve the quality and reliability of AI responses

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an Australian legal professional to benchmark how well language models answer real questions of Australian law. You will review outputs from two AI platforms, compare their legal reasoning, and assess each response against a standardized rubric.

The work is especially relevant to commercial and contract matters. It requires precise written feedback, consistent judgment, independent execution, and careful attention to deadlines.

This is a remote contract opportunity for candidates located in Australia. The initial commitment is approximately 10 hours, with strong potential for more. The listed time requirement is 20+ hours per week.

  • Pay: $100-$120 per hour
  • Location: Australia
  • Engagement: Contractor, part time
  • Language: English
  • Data type: Text evaluation and rating

What You'll Do

You will assess legal AI responses using a consistent process and explain the reasoning behind each evaluation. The work involves comparing model answers rather than simply checking for surface-level writing quality.

  • Run the same legal prompts across two AI language-model platforms
  • Compare the resulting answers side by side
  • Score each response against a standardized evaluation rubric
  • Write concise feedback explaining the basis for each evaluation
  • Apply Australian legal judgment consistently
  • Work independently and meet deadlines

Requirements

This specialist evaluation role requires substantial Australian legal experience and the ability to assess both legal substance and contextual relevance in written AI outputs.

  • At least five years of experience as in-house legal counsel practicing in Australia
  • Strong command of Australian law, especially commercial and contract matters
  • Ability to evaluate legal reasoning, accuracy, and relevance in AI-generated responses
  • Precise written English
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow a structured rubric independently
  • Ability to meet deadlines

Helpful Legal Background

Experience handling commercial agreements, contract interpretation, or other in-house legal matters will support the practical judgment needed for this work. The engagement is remote, and all work is covered by a confidentiality agreement.

  • Commercial agreements experience
  • Contract interpretation experience
  • In-house legal practice in Australia
  • Careful, structured written analysis
