About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers find, track, and grow skills in annotation and human-feedback work across the AI industry, and creating an OpenTrain account is free.

Why AI training matters

AI systems learn from examples people prepare and review. Humanities-focused QA ensures models produce accurate, sensitive, and well-contextualized content about art, culture, and history — work that directly shapes how models understand the human record.

The role

You will serve as the Art History / Cultural Studies Quality Assurance Lead, reviewing AI-generated humanities content and trainer QA submissions for historical accuracy, interpretive nuance, terminology, and cultural sensitivity. This is a remote contractor, part-time role for US-based contributors.

  • Hours: 20+ hours per week
  • Rate: $65 USD per hour
  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Work type: Text evaluation, RLHF-style review and rubric-based ratings

What you'll do

Perform detailed reviews of art history, visual culture, museum-style descriptions, critical interpretations, and cultural comparisons produced by models or trainee contributors. Use project rubrics to score items and produce written feedback that is precise, constructive, and actionable.

  • Evaluate trainer and QA submissions against detailed rubrics and quality standards
  • Assess visual analysis, historical context, representation, and culturally sensitive claims
  • Write clear feedback, escalation notes, guideline updates, and calibration examples
  • Support onboarding, create/update documentation, FAQs, and trackers
  • Spot recurring quality issues and recommend improvements to QA workflows

Requirements

We need an expert with advanced humanities training and excellent written communication who can judge nuance and context in art-historical content.

  • Advanced background in art history, cultural studies, visual culture, museum studies, or a closely related humanities field
  • Strong visual analysis skills and sound historical-context judgment
  • Experience evaluating content against rubrics and providing structured feedback
  • Clear written English communication and documentation skills
  • Comfort using remote collaboration tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, and Google Docs
  • Familiarity with AI training, LLM evaluation, RLHF, or humanities QA is a strong plus

Helpful background

Candidates who have led or supported remote teams of researchers, curators, educators, writers, annotators, or QAs and who have worked with style guides, calibration tasks, and onboarding materials will transition quickly into this lead role.

  • Experience building or maintaining documentation, calibration examples, and onboarding workflows
  • Track record of mentoring reviewers or running quality calibration sessions

How this works and who should apply

OpenTrain centralizes AI training opportunities so contributors can build a durable portfolio without rebuilding proof-of-work on each platform. This role is a fit if you are an expert in art history or cultural studies, comfortable with remote collaboration, and interested in shaping how models handle humanities topics.

  • Location: US-based contributors only
  • Language: English required
