  • Work remotely with flexible project-based collaboration

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an Anthropology Quality Assurance Lead to support anthropology AI training projects. You will review AI-generated anthropology explanations, ethnographic summaries, cultural comparisons, archaeology discussions, and human evolution content.

The role focuses on accuracy, sensitivity, theory application, methodological rigor, ethical awareness, terminology, clarity, formatting, and instruction-following. You will also review trainer and QA work, help maintain consistent standards, and communicate with remote expert teams.

This is an intermediate-level, part-time contractor position requiring 20+ hours per week. Compensation is $65 USD per hour.

  • Work type: Part-time contractor
  • Location: United States
  • Language: English
  • Data type: Text
  • AI training methods: Evaluation, rating, and RLHF

What You'll Do

You will apply anthropology expertise and project rubrics to assess content quality and help strengthen the work of trainers, reviewers, and other contributors. Your feedback will support accurate, culturally aware, and methodologically sound AI outputs.

  • Review anthropology content and trainer or QA submissions against detailed project rubrics.
  • Identify stereotyping, ethnocentrism, outdated terminology, weak context, and ethically problematic framing.
  • Evaluate theory application, methodological rigor, ethical awareness, terminology, clarity, formatting, and instruction-following.
  • Provide precise written feedback and help resolve recurring quality issues.
  • Communicate guideline updates across remote expert teams.
  • Maintain style guides, FAQs, trackers, onboarding materials, calibration tasks, and examples.
  • Support contributor activation and follow-up when team members are inactive or inconsistent.
  • Help keep quality standards consistent across remote researchers, reviewers, annotators, and QAs.

Required Qualifications

You should have a strong background in anthropology, archaeology, cultural anthropology, or a closely related field, along with clear written English and confidence communicating with remote teams. Experience evaluating work against detailed rubrics and applying cultural sensitivity and methodological rigor is important for this role.

  • Anthropology degree or closely related academic background
  • Experience with ethnography, archaeology, cultural anthropology, or related research
  • Experience with anthropology research, teaching, fieldwork, museum or heritage work, or related academic workflows
  • Ability to identify stereotyping, ethnocentrism, weak contextualization, and ethically problematic framing
  • Strong written English for feedback, documentation, and team communication
  • Ability to evaluate work using detailed rubrics
  • Familiarity with cultural relativism, ethnographic methods, kinship, ritual, representation, and human evolution

Helpful Experience

Prior experience in AI training, data annotation, LLM evaluation, or social science quality assurance is helpful but not required. Experience leading or supporting distributed expert teams can also help you succeed in the quality assurance lead function.

  • AI training, LLM evaluation, data annotation, or social science QA experience
  • Experience leading or supporting remote researchers, reviewers, annotators, or QAs
  • Comfort maintaining documentation, trackers, onboarding resources, and calibration examples
  • Familiarity with Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, dashboards, trackers, and project management systems

Why This Work Matters

Anthropology expertise can help AI systems discuss cultures, communities, human history, and social practices with greater context and care. By identifying inaccurate, stereotypical, outdated, or poorly framed content, you will help shape more responsible model behavior while contributing directly to the development of modern AI.

  • Apply specialist anthropology knowledge to real AI development workflows
  • Improve cultural sensitivity and contextual accuracy in model outputs
  • Help establish clear standards for expert review and quality assurance
  • Build experience in a rapidly growing field at the intersection of research and technology
