About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. It helps specialists discover opportunities, build a credible profile, and grow experience in a fast-developing field where human expertise shapes how AI systems work.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors prepare examples, write content, evaluate outputs, and provide expert feedback so AI models can understand specialized information and respond more accurately.

  • Work remotely with a computer and internet connection
  • Apply specialized knowledge to cutting-edge AI development
  • Build experience through flexible project-based work

The Role

OpenTrain is hiring an Aerospace CAD Question Authoring Expert to support AI training on high-fidelity, multi-part aerospace assemblies. You will review native FreeCAD files and turn detailed assembly information into objective, non-guessable questions with accurate answers grounded in the underlying design data.

This is a remote, part-time contractor role requiring 20+ hours per week. The listed rate is $40-$80 per hour. The working language is English, and the opportunity is open worldwide.

  • Role type: Contractor and part time
  • Schedule: 20+ hours per week
  • Pay: $40-$80 per hour
  • Location: Remote and worldwide
  • Language: English

What You'll Do

Your work will focus on technical interpretation rather than guesswork. Questions should test understanding of design features, component functions, and relationships across complex assemblies, while answers must be clear, well researched, and supported by the assembly information.

You will also help improve the quality and consistency of future work by communicating clearly about requirements, documenting relevant guidance, and providing feedback on question sets and project workflows.

  • Review native FreeCAD files and analyze complex mechanical assemblies
  • Author several objective questions for each assembly
  • Create accurate answers grounded in assembly data
  • Cover important features, functions, and relationships between components
  • Communicate in writing and through occasional verbal discussions
  • Contribute documentation and feedback that improves future workflows

Required Skills and Experience

You should bring demonstrated expertise in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or industrial design, along with strong CAD fundamentals and hands-on experience interpreting multi-part assemblies. The role requires the ability to understand design intent and technical drawings, then express that understanding precisely in written questions and answers.

FreeCAD or a comparable CAD platform is useful, but prior FreeCAD exposure is not required. Educational or documentation-writing experience can also support success. Previous AI training experience is not required; applied domain knowledge and technical precision are the priority.

  • Expertise in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or industrial design
  • Strong understanding of CAD principles and multi-part assemblies
  • Ability to interpret complex design intent and technical drawings
  • Ability to write precise, objective technical questions and evidence-based answers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to objective, comprehensive content
  • Familiarity with FreeCAD or a comparable CAD tool is helpful but not required

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is suited to an aerospace or mechanical engineering specialist who enjoys turning technical information into clear, testable explanations. It may also fit an industrial design professional with strong assembly knowledge and the ability to communicate detailed design relationships accurately.

The listing identifies the opportunity as entry level within AI training, so prior work training AI systems is not expected. However, candidates must have the technical background and hands-on CAD understanding needed to produce reliable content from complex aerospace assemblies.

  • Aerospace and mechanical engineering specialists
  • Industrial design professionals with strong CAD experience
  • Technical writers or educators with relevant assembly knowledge
  • Experts interested in contributing to AI training without prior AI project experience
