The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an Adolescent Suicide and Self-Harm Specialist to contribute to a project focused on improving AI’s ability to assess and manage adolescent suicide and self-harm risk. You will use your clinical expertise to create high-quality, structured written risk assessments that can support AI training.

This is a remote contractor opportunity available globally. Compensation is $45 to $95 per hour, with a schedule of less than 20 hours per week.

What You’ll Do

• Review adolescent case materials and create structured written risk assessments for suicide and self-harm presentations.
• Apply validated tools such as the C-SSRS and expert risk formulation to develop clear, actionable guidance.
• Distinguish between self-harm, suicidal ideation, and intent, and characterize acuity levels precisely.
• Recommend response protocols, including escalation pathways, Stanley-Brown safety planning, and means-restriction strategies.
• Identify comorbidities, safeguarding concerns, and contextual factors that influence risk.
• Document guidance in clear, research-grade English so non-specialists can confidently implement recommended actions.
• Benchmark and cross-reference risk judgments against established guidelines and peer assessments to support consistency.

Required Qualifications

You should have substantial direct clinical experience with adolescents and specialized expertise in suicide and self-harm assessment or intervention. An active clinical license or registration in good standing is required.

• Active clinical license or registration in good standing
• Three to five or more years of post-qualification experience with direct adolescent clinical contact focused on suicide and self-harm risk
• Specialist credentials in child or adolescent psychiatry or psychology
• Advanced proficiency with suicide and self-harm risk assessment tools, including the C-SSRS and safety planning protocols
• Exceptional written English, demonstrated through native fluency or equivalent scores such as IELTS 7.5 or higher with 7.0 or higher in writing, TOEFL 100 or higher, or Cambridge C1 to C2

Helpful Background

Additional experience may strengthen your application, particularly in evidence-based adolescent interventions and acute or research settings.

• DBT-A or CBT training
• Crisis or inpatient experience
• Trauma-informed care familiarity
• Contributions to suicidology research or clinical guidelines
