In this role, OpenTrain AI is hiring and contracting with an experienced safeguarding specialist to help improve AI systems through structured expert review and written guidance.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists review examples, generate guidance, and evaluate model outputs so AI systems can learn to respond more accurately and safely.

Your safeguarding expertise will help shape how AI systems interpret complex adolescent cases, identify serious risks, and communicate careful, defensible assessments.

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an Adolescent Safeguarding and Exploitation Risk Specialist for AI training work focused on Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment. You will apply real-world subject-matter knowledge to written adolescent cases and risk-assessment guidance.

Prior AI training experience is not required. Strong professional, academic, or clinical expertise in child safeguarding risk assessment is essential.

  • Remote contractor opportunity available worldwide
  • Part-time engagement requiring 20+ hours per week
  • Compensation ranges from $45 to $95 USD per hour
  • English-language work with workload and scheduling determined by project terms

What You’ll Do

You will assess complex adolescent cases and produce clear written guidance that non-specialists can understand and use. Your work will be grounded in recognised safeguarding frameworks, trauma-informed practice, established protocols, and careful documentation.

You will also benchmark assessments against peer standards and evaluate appropriate protective responses, escalation routes, and intervention options.

  • Review sexual safety, child sexual exploitation, and abuse risks in adolescent cases
  • Identify indicators of grooming, coercion, and exploitation
  • Assess urgency and recommend intervention options
  • Identify protective actions and escalation pathways
  • Consider when mandatory reporting may be warranted
  • Apply trauma-informed judgment to adolescent development, capacity, and consent
  • Write research-grade, defensible safeguarding assessments
  • Apply detailed project guidelines consistently

Requirements

This opportunity requires relevant professional, academic, or clinical expertise in Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment. The structured listing identifies the role as entry level, but the detailed requirements call for substantial post-qualification experience and current or recent adolescent safeguarding practice.

  • Three to five or more years of post-qualification experience in child safeguarding, adolescent protection, or a relevant clinical role
  • Active clinical license or professional registration in good standing
  • Current or recent adolescent caseload or safeguarding practice
  • Demonstrated CSE and CSA risk-assessment expertise
  • Strong written English and careful attention to detail
  • Strong safeguarding documentation skills
  • Ability to apply safeguarding frameworks to urgency, intervention, escalation, and reporting decisions
  • Trauma-informed understanding of adolescent development, capacity, and consent

Relevant Professional Backgrounds

Relevant experience may come from child protection, forensic child or adolescent psychiatry or psychology, or paediatric medicine with a safeguarding remit. Experience in a designated safeguarding or expert-witness capacity is valuable, as is familiarity with ACEs and trauma frameworks.
