About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people start and grow careers teaching AI by putting projects, profiles, and opportunities in one place and supporting durable freelance work.

We hire experts directly as contractors to produce the high-quality human examples that modern AI systems learn from. For this role, OpenTrain is the hiring organization and employer of record for contract work.

Why AI training matters

AI training (data labeling, annotation, RLHF) is the human side of building intelligent systems — people create, check, and correct the examples models learn from. This work is often remote, flexible, and accessible: many projects require domain knowledge and judgement rather than prior AI experience.

As an Accounting SME you will shape how accounting and finance models reason and advise, influencing model behavior across real-world business scenarios.

The role

You will review AI-generated accounting and finance responses, create expert accounting content, and assess the technical quality of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, financial statement presentation, and internal control analysis.

Work includes writing detailed prompts and gold-standard outputs, checking technical claims for accuracy, and ranking model responses for correctness, clarity, completeness, and adherence to GAAP or IFRS. Tasks align with RLHF, evaluation rating, and text generation workflows.

What you'll do

  • Review AI-generated accounting answers and provide precise written feedback on errors, assumptions, and reasoning quality.
  • Create expert content: journal entries, explanations, close checklists, reconciliation logic, and scenario analyses as gold-standard references.
  • Evaluate outputs for bookkeeping logic, accruals, reconciliations, presentation issues, and internal control weaknesses.
  • Compare and rank multiple responses for correctness, clarity, completeness, and best-practice accounting treatment.
  • Identify misleading guidance, unsafe assumptions, and weak explanations to improve model reliability across business scenarios.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional accounting experience in public accounting, industry, shared services, or advisory.
  • Strong command of revenue and expense recognition, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, inventory basics, payroll basics, and tax awareness.
  • Proven ability to prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close deliverables with auditability in mind.
  • Solid understanding of financial statements, common classification/presentation issues, internal controls, documentation standards, and audit readiness.
  • Minimum C1 English proficiency with clear, structured written explanations.
  • Ability to work independently in an hourly remote contractor workflow and meet a 20+ hours/week time commitment.

Helpful background

Professional credentials such as CPA, ACCA, CMA, or a local equivalent are strongly preferred but not required.

Prior experience evaluating AI-generated content, performing accounting QA, audit review, or writing technical accounting explanations is an advantage.

Compensation & location

This contractor role is hourly and country-based. Pay ranges advertised up to USD 65/hour with lower country tiers at USD 50/hour and USD 35/hour depending on location; the posted range for this listing is USD 35–65/hr.

Hiring is remote and available across multiple countries in Europe, Asia, South America, and the United States. The role is not worldwide; applicants should confirm eligibility for the listed countries during application.

How it works

If selected, you will receive detailed task instructions, examples of desired outputs, and rating guidelines. You will produce written gold answers, annotate or rate model responses, and provide structured feedback on errors.

Work is delivered as a remote contractor on a flexible schedule; tasks are typically scoped by the hour. OpenTrain supports contributors building a portfolio of AI training work and growing their roles over time.
