About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the centralized, open platform where people build careers in AI training and data labeling. We make it easier to discover projects, consolidate opportunities across platforms, and grow a durable freelance career in the human side of AI.

Why AI training work matters

AI training (data labeling and human feedback work) is how modern models learn from examples prepared and reviewed by people. Contributors in this industry shape how state-of-the-art systems behave while enjoying flexible, remote work that fits around other commitments.

The role

Micro1 is recruiting a Solutions Architect to contribute cloud and microservices expertise that supports next-generation AI systems. This is a project-based contractor role, suited for someone who can design and implement robust, secure, and scalable infrastructure to run containerized workloads and microservices on AWS.

  • Employment: Contractor, part-time
  • Time: 20+ hours per week
  • Location: Fully remote, worldwide
  • Language: English required
  • Experience level: Entry level (as listed) — candidates must still meet the technical requirements below

What you'll do

You'll lead architecture and implementation tasks across cloud infrastructure, container orchestration, and microservices deployments to ensure reliable, secure, and performant systems that support AI training and evaluation workloads.

  • Architect and implement scalable microservices-based solutions on AWS
  • Design and maintain infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes, and related cloud-native tools
  • Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and product teams to translate business requirements into technical blueprints
  • Ensure solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements: reliability, security, and performance
  • Troubleshoot and resolve architectural and deployment challenges throughout the project lifecycle
  • Document architecture decisions and communicate complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Mentor stakeholders on cloud architecture best practices and emerging trends

Requirements

Candidates must meet the technical and professional requirements below. OpenTrain emphasizes clear communication and the ability to work independently in distributed teams.

  • Expertise architecting and deploying microservices-based applications
  • Deep hands-on experience with AWS core services and infrastructure-as-code
  • Mastery of Docker and cloud-native container orchestration with Kubernetes
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication; able to convey technical concepts to mixed audiences
  • Proven ability to work independently in distributed, remote environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field — or equivalent relevant experience

Helpful background (preferred)

These qualifications are not required but will strengthen your application and match well with the project's needs.

  • AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer
  • Experience architecting large-scale, mission-critical enterprise systems
  • Background mentoring or leading cross-functional technology teams
