About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting for a Senior Physics Adjudicator on a part-time contractor basis. In this role, a physics expert with active research credentials serves as the authoritative evaluator of advanced physics problems submitted for AI training purposes, adjudicating conflicting methodologies and interpretations, and refining scientific content so that next-generation AI models learn to reason accurately about physics.
What you will do
- Serve as the recognized adjudicator for advanced physics problems within your subfield, delivering authoritative scientific judgments
- Evaluate and resolve conflicting methodologies, results, or interpretations submitted for AI training purposes
- Review and refine scientific content for clarity, accuracy, and consistency, ensuring alignment with best research practices
- Provide detailed written feedback to improve AI model understanding and outputs
- Collaborate with a global team of experts to advance the quality of AI training datasets
- Maintain high standards of scientific rigor across all assessments
Required skills
- PhD in physics or senior PhD student (minimum), with ongoing research and publications in the relevant subfield
- 2-5 recent (past 5 years) representative publications available via arXiv/DOI
- Demonstrated expertise as a professor, industry research PI, or equivalent subject matter authority
- High-level scientific judgment for evaluating edge cases and resolving disagreements
- Strong leadership background in mentoring, reviewing, or directing research projects or labs
- Proficiency in LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter
Helpful background
- Experience adjudicating research disputes or peer-reviewing high-impact publications
- Involvement in AI, machine learning, or computational modeling projects
- Expertise in subfields such as High Energy Physics, Biophysics, Condensed Matter, AMO/Quantum Optics, Gravitation/Cosmology/Astrophysics, Quantum Information, or Optical Properties of Materials
Schedule and location
This is a fully remote, part-time contractor role requiring approximately 10 hours per week over an 8-10 week engagement. Flexible hours are available. Applicants should be based in the US, UK, or Canada, though truly exceptional candidates from other locations may be considered.
