About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the leading platform for people who build careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers discover projects, track work across platforms, and build a unified portfolio of AI training experience — all from a single, free account.

This role is posted through OpenTrain and connects experienced retail professionals with contract opportunities that directly influence how next-generation AI systems understand real-world retail operations.

About AI Training Work

AI training (data labeling, annotation, and human feedback) is the human layer behind modern machine intelligence: people annotate documents, evaluate model outputs, and provide the domain expertise models need to behave sensibly. Contributors often work remotely, choose flexible schedules, and provide domain knowledge that improves model utility and safety.

This project uses expert retail judgment to create and validate training data so models learn realistic merchandising, inventory, forecasting, pricing, and omnichannel behaviors.

The Role

We are recruiting contractors with hands-on retail operations leadership to review process documents and training scenarios and translate professional judgment into structured feedback for AI training workflows. You will work remote, collaborate with a small team of retail experts, and provide written and verbal critiques in English.

This is a part-time contracting role requiring 20+ hours per week. Pay is hourly, USD $40–$65/hr depending on experience and task complexity.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours/week
  • Pay: $40–$65 USD per hour
  • Work language: English; worldwide applicants welcome

What You’ll Do

You will examine retail process documentation and scenario-based training materials, provide expert annotations and ratings, and suggest concrete improvements grounded in real-world practice. Your contributions will be used to improve model responses and downstream decision-making tools.

  • Review retail process documentation and training scenarios for accuracy and realism
  • Provide expert insights on merchandising, inventory management, and e-commerce operations
  • Analyze demand forecasting outputs to reduce stockouts and overstock risks
  • Contribute to markdown strategy plans and competitive pricing matrices
  • Evaluate omnichannel sales strategies to improve customer experience and revenue
  • Collaborate with other retail experts to deliver consistent, high-quality labels and ratings
  • Provide clear written and verbal feedback in English and keep input current with industry trends

Requirements

Candidates must meet the core experience and skill requirements below; these are essential for producing high-value, domain-accurate training data.

  • 5–10+ years experience in retail management, merchandising, inventory, or e-commerce leadership roles
  • Strong command of demand forecasting, markdown planning, and retail pricing strategy
  • Deep knowledge of omnichannel operations and data-driven decision making
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to analyze complex retail scenarios and provide actionable insights
  • Comfort working remotely and collaborating with distributed teams
  • Proficiency with digital collaboration and documentation tools

Helpful (But Not Required) Background

These experiences make it easier to contribute quickly and may influence project fit, but they are not strict requirements unless specified for a particular task.

  • Experience training or mentoring retail operations teams
  • Familiarity with US, Canada, or UK retail markets
  • Prior exposure to AI, data annotation, or process optimization projects

How This Project Works and How to Apply
