The Role
OpenTrain AI is hiring plasma and fusion physics experts to author and review expert-level problems and to evaluate AI-generated scientific answers. The focus areas include magnetic-confinement fusion, tokamak and stellarator design, magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), plasma transport, and gyrokinetics.
You will create challenging expert-level prompts/questions, review peer-authored problems for clarity and correctness, and judge AI outputs with Accept, Revise, or Reject verdicts supported by concise, rigorous written rationale.
- Data types: Text — problem prompts, model answers, and evaluation rationales.
- Labeling tasks: Text generation, question answering, and evaluation/rating of model outputs.
What You’ll Do
- Author challenging expert-level problems in plasma physics and fusion that test deep scientific reasoning.
- Review peer-written problems for clarity, genuine difficulty, and ground-truth correctness.
- Evaluate AI model outputs and render Accept, Revise, or Reject judgments with detailed written explanations.
- Write concise, rigorous explanations that justify your evaluations and guide model improvement.
- Apply hands-on subject-matter expertise in magnetic-confinement fusion, tokamaks, stellarators, MHD, plasma transport, or gyrokinetic simulation.
Requirements
You must have advanced technical training and practical experience in plasma and fusion science and be comfortable assessing high-level scientific reasoning and correctness.
- PhD or equivalent research experience in plasma physics, fusion energy, nuclear engineering, or a closely related field (required).
- Hands-on experience with magnetic-confinement fusion, tokamak or stellarator design, MHD, plasma transport, or gyrokinetic simulation.
- Proven ability to author rigorous, expert-level scientific problems.
- Skill evaluating technical correctness and reasoning quality in advanced scientific content.
- Strong scientific writing, attention to detail, and ability to produce clear, defensible evaluation rationales.
