About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the centralized, open platform where people build careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect technical contributors with projects that need human expertise to teach and refine AI systems, and help freelancers consolidate opportunities and build a unified training portfolio.

  • Free to join and focused on building long-term freelance careers in AI training.
  • Ideal for contributors who want flexible, remote work that directly shapes how AI behaves.

About AI training work

AI training (data labeling, annotation, and human feedback) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create, review, and rate examples that models learn from. This work is often remote, flexible, and accessible — and it’s how modern AI systems learn to read, write, code, and reason.

As a Node.js specialist you'll apply software engineering expertise to improve model behavior on real-world coding tasks, ensuring the model learns robust, maintainable, and secure practices.

  • Work is remote and adaptable to part-time schedules.
  • Contributors influence how state-of-the-art models understand and generate code.

The role

We are recruiting experienced Node.js developers to provide high-quality human feedback that trains and evaluates AI systems. This is a contract, part-time role requiring 20+ hours per week and open to contributors worldwide who can work in English.

Compensation is pay-per-hour between $30 and $90 USD, depending on tasks and evaluation assignments. You will work as a contractor, using evaluation and rating tasks focused on computer code and programming.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours/week.
  • Pay: USD $30–$90 per hour (pay-per-hour).
  • Languages: English required; worldwide applicants accepted.

What you'll do

Your primary focus is analyzing and evaluating Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript code so models learn correct, efficient, and maintainable engineering patterns. Tasks combine code review, rating, and written explanation to create training signals for AI systems.

  • Provide expert-level feedback on Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript code samples.
  • Analyze and review code for correctness, efficiency, and best practices.
  • Evaluate real-world Node.js scenarios to teach models about scalability and maintainability.
  • Document edge cases, trade-offs, and nuanced technical considerations in clear written form.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify common backend patterns and solutions.

Requirements

You must demonstrate strong, hands-on experience with Node.js ecosystems and backend engineering. Clear, detailed written communication is essential because much of the work requires explaining technical judgments in writing.

  • Extensive professional experience with Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Expert problem-solving and debugging skills in distributed application systems.
  • Deep understanding of backend application architectures and development patterns.
  • Strong attention to detail for code review and documentation tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with emphasis on clarity and thoroughness.
  • Ability to analyze and articulate technical trade-offs and solutions.
  • Proactive, collaborative approach to cross-functional teamwork.

Helpful background

These qualifications are not required but will help you succeed and receive more assignments.

  • Prior experience contributing to AI-related projects or model training initiatives.
  • History designing or maintaining large-scale, high-availability Node.js applications.
  • Comfort with remote collaboration and asynchronous communication tools.
