About AI Training Work

AI training (data labeling, annotation, and human feedback) is the human contribution that teaches models how to make correct, safe, and useful decisions. Tasks include evaluating model outputs, answering scenario prompts, and providing domain expertise that becomes training signal.

This role focuses on training generative systems and evaluation pipelines: your domain knowledge helps models learn practical, security-minded behavior across networks, cloud, and endpoints.

The Role — Network Security AI Trainer

OpenTrain is recruiting for a contract Network Security AI Trainer to provide expert judgment on network security scenarios used to train next-generation AI. This is a part-time contractor position (20+ hours/week), fully remote and open worldwide. English fluency is required.

Prior AI experience is not required; we are looking for real-world network security experience across firewalls, VPNs, segmentation, cloud and endpoint controls, incident response, and compliance.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Hours: 20+ hours per week
  • Language: English required
  • Work model: Fully remote, worldwide

What You’ll Do

You will review text-based network security scenarios and provide high-quality domain answers, ratings, and guidance that help train generative and evaluation models. Tasks are text-focused and use OpenTrain-compatible labeling tools.

  • Evaluate model responses and assign accuracy, relevance, and safety ratings (EVALUATION_RATING).
  • Answer technical prompts and produce clear, actionable security judgments (QUESTION_ANSWERING).
  • Assess firewall/IDS/IPS configurations, VPN designs, segmentation models, and recommended mitigations.
  • Review cloud and endpoint security practices across multi-cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Provide incident response judgment on investigation, containment, eradication, and reporting.
  • Advise on security best practices, policy alignment, and documentation standards.

Requirements

This role requires proven, hands-on network security expertise and the ability to communicate technical judgments clearly in English. Certifications are valued but not mandatory.

  • Proven experience with firewalls, VPNs, and network segmentation.
  • Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving security issues with advanced tools.
  • Hands-on incident response experience (investigation through reporting).
  • Experience with cloud and endpoint security in multi-cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Strong knowledge of security frameworks, regulatory compliance, and policy development.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CEH are highly valued.

Helpful Background (Nice to Have)

These skills are beneficial but not required; they help you contribute deeper expertise to specialized tasks and mentor less-experienced contributors.

  • Security automation and orchestration experience (SOAR).
  • Experience securing enterprise SaaS, IaaS, or PaaS environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.

Compensation, Schedule, and Data Details

Pay is hourly: $30–$90 per hour (up to $90/hr). This is paid per hour as a contract engagement. The work is text-based labeling and evaluation for generative models and evaluation pipelines.

Labeling task types include evaluation/rating and question-answering on text scenarios. You will use labeling software provided by the project (OTHER).

  • Pay type: Hourly (PAY_PER_HOUR), USD $30–$90/hr
  • Time expectation: 20+ hours per week
  • Data type: Text; label types: Evaluation/Ratings and Question-Answering
