About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors discover projects, build a unified portfolio of AI-training work, and grow freelance careers that last.

OpenTrain's community focuses on real hands-on AI training: contributors annotate, collect, and validate the examples that modern models learn from. This role is posted through OpenTrain to connect qualified contractors with specialized projects in motion-data collection.

About AI training and data collection

AI systems learn from examples prepared and validated by people. Motion-data collection combines sensors and video to create high-quality datasets used to teach robots, mobile systems, and machine-learning models how humans move.

This kind of work is typically remote, flexible, and accessible: many projects require attention to detail, device familiarity, or domain knowledge (robotics, kinesiology) rather than formal degrees.

The role

Micro1 is recruiting contractors to capture synchronized smartphone IMU data and first-person video for motion-model training. You will follow strict technical protocols to produce deterministic, labeled recordings that feed into large-scale datasets.

This is an entry-level contractor position intended for part-time engagement of 20+ hours per week and is open to applicants in a set list of countries (see Requirements).

What you'll do

You will perform repeated recording sessions using your smartphone and a hands-free head strap, following step-by-step protocols and submitting approved videos on a weekly cadence.

  • Capture precise motion data during specified physical activities using a smartphone IMU and synchronized first-person video.
  • Follow detailed technical protocols for recording quality, determinism, labeling, and file formats.
  • Deliver approved video and sensor data on a weekly basis for the duration of the project.
  • Participate in device compatibility checks, onboarding, and remote communication with the project team.

Requirements

To succeed in this role you must have the devices, setup, and remote-collaboration skills necessary to produce repeatable, high-quality motion recordings.

  • Compatible smartphone capable of high-fidelity IMU and video capture.
  • Access to a head strap or equivalent hands-free rig for first-person video recording.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and consistent protocol execution.
  • Strong written and verbal English for remote collaboration.
  • Experience using mobile devices for sensor and video data capture is preferred.

Helpful background and experience

Candidates with related domain knowledge are a strong fit because they understand sensor behavior, activity segmentation, and the requirements of ML dataset quality.

  • Robotics, kinesiology, or human motion analysis experience.
  • Sensor-based data collection or activity-segmentation work.
  • Familiarity with machine-learning dataset labeling and large-scale dataset structuring.

Compensation, schedule, and locations

This contract role is part-time and designed for freelancers who can begin quickly after onboarding. The project expects a minimum weekly submission level alongside ongoing quality checks.

  • Time commitment: 20+ hours per week.
  • Pay type: PAY_PER_HOUR at USD 6.00 per hour.
  • The role description also notes payment per recorded video that meets project specifications; project has minimum weekly submission expectations.
  • Languages: English required.
  • Eligible countries: Argentina (AR), Bahamas (BS), Barbados (BB), Brazil (BR), Chile (CL), Colombia (CO), Costa Rica (CR), Dominican Republic (DO), Jamaica (JM), Mexico (MX), Panama (PA), Uruguay (UY).

How the project works / next steps

If selected you'll complete a device compatibility check and short onboarding to learn the recording protocol and submission workflow. Expect remote collaboration, periodic quality reviews, and weekly delivery windows.

Onboarding will cover technical requirements, deterministic labeling steps, file naming and delivery, and how to communicate issues or questions to the project team.

  • Complete compatibility check and onboarding before recording paid data.
  • Record and submit video + IMU data according to the protocol and weekly schedule.
  • Address feedback and re-submit recordings if quality issues are identified.
