The role

OpenTrain is recruiting a remote Legal AI Data Reviewer on a contractor, part-time basis for OpenTrain. You will review, analyze, and annotate legal documents, evaluate legal scenarios, and assess AI-generated legal content for quality, clarity, and compliance. This role requires strong legal judgment and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable training data.

What you'll do

You will perform careful, documented reviews that support model training, guideline development, and overall data quality.

  • Review, analyze, and annotate legal documents to create training labels
  • Evaluate hypothetical and real legal scenarios and assign ratings or structured outcomes
  • Assess AI-generated legal content for accuracy, clarity, compliance, and ethical concerns
  • Translate legal judgments into clear annotation decisions and contribute to annotation guidelines
  • Provide actionable feedback to improve model outputs and user experience
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on legal data workflows while maintaining confidentiality

Requirements

Candidates must meet every substantive requirement listed below. This role is marked entry level for the AI-training domain but requires professional legal qualifications and demonstrated legal skills.

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or equivalent legal qualification
  • Proven experience in legal research, writing, and analysis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Careful attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to interpret and apply legal frameworks across varied scenarios
  • Comfort working remotely and independently with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to client confidentiality and ethical conduct

Helpful background (preferred)

These qualifications are not required but will help you succeed in the project and may influence selection for specialized tasks.

  • Experience with legal technology, legal operations, or AI-related projects
  • Multijurisdictional legal experience or fluency in additional languages
  • Background in legal instruction, compliance, or policy advisory work

Pay, tools, and how to apply

Pay is hourly and ranges from $40 to $100 per hour; the posted hourly rate is $100/hr. You will be paid per hour as a contractor.
