About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers find and manage specialized AI training work, track projects across platforms, and build a unified portfolio that showcases their AI training contributions.

OpenTrain is where people start and grow careers teaching AI: discover projects, apply quickly, and join research teams that rely on human expertise to shape next-generation models.

Why AI training matters

AI systems learn from examples prepared and reviewed by people. Evaluating and annotating outputs from AI coding tools is a hands-on way to influence how models write, understand, and reason about code.

This work is often remote and flexible, making it a great part-time option for experienced developers who want to contribute to cutting-edge tooling and research while keeping their current schedules.

The role

OpenTrain is recruiting senior Go developers to evaluate and provide technical feedback on AI-powered coding tools during early (alpha) stages. This is a part-time contractor role for experienced Golang engineers who enjoy deep technical testing and clear, structured reporting.

Work is fully remote and can be performed from anywhere. Typical engagements include focused testing bursts and close collaboration with the research team.

What you'll do

You will combine hands-on backend development work with structured model evaluation. The role centers on testing AI coding assistants in realistic developer workflows and producing actionable technical reports for researchers and engineers.

  • Develop REST and GraphQL endpoints within a modern Go stack.
  • Perform rigorous data validation, comprehensive error handling, and complex debugging.
  • Execute database migrations and optimize backend performance.
  • Test and evaluate alpha AI models in Cursor across multiple 4-day bursts with 5+ hours per day.
  • Identify and document incidents, bugs, and edge cases with detailed reports, bug traces, and annotated screenshots.
  • Collaborate with the research team via Slack, providing real-time feedback and thoughtful technical insights.
  • Complete structured surveys on overall impressions and model usability after each testing burst.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the core technical requirements and demonstrate strong communication and documentation skills.

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Golang developer.
  • Strong command of Go, REST APIs, GraphQL, and backend development best practices.
  • Proven experience with AI-powered coding tools, ideally Cursor.
  • Experience in data validation, robust error handling, and complex debugging.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication; able to document findings thoroughly without sharing confidential information.
  • Enthusiasm for hands-on coding, rapid prototyping, and technical curiosity.

Helpful background

The following are not required but will make your application stand out and help you be effective faster.

  • Public contributions to open-source projects (notable GitHub repositories or stars).
  • Prior experience conducting technical product evaluations or QA for developer tools.
  • A track record of mentoring or collaborating closely with research and engineering teams.

Time, pay, and logistics

This is a part-time contractor engagement. Work is structured into multi-day testing bursts and ongoing collaboration with the research team.

The project accepts applicants worldwide and communications will be in English.

  • Estimated time: less than 20 hours per week; testing often in 4-day bursts of 5+ hours per day.
  • Pay: hourly, USD. Range listed is $30–$90/hr with a stated rate of $90/hr for this role.
  • Tools and platforms: evaluations performed in Cursor (alpha), collaboration via Slack, and project tracking through the OpenTrain listing.
  • Labeling/software category: computer code programming with evaluation/rating label types.

How to apply

If this role matches your background and availability, apply through the OpenTrain project listing to be considered. Provide examples of recent Go work, links to relevant GitHub repos or contributions, and a brief note about your experience with AI-powered coding tools (especially Cursor).
