About AI training and why it matters

AI training (data labeling, annotation, or human feedback) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people prepare, review, and explain real-world examples that models learn from.

Your domain expertise helps AI understand complex electrical systems, troubleshoot scenarios, and communicate technical procedures clearly.

The role — who we're hiring

OpenTrain is recruiting an Electrical Systems Documentation Reviewer to analyze and annotate electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control-system documentation, inspection reports, and technical manuals for an AI training project.

This is a contract, part-time role requiring 20+ hours per week and comfortable asynchronous remote collaboration.

  • Pay: USD $40–$50 per hour (hourly rate shown: $50/hr).
  • Work type: Contractor, Part-time — 20+ hours/week.
  • Location: Worldwide (remote); project language: English.
  • Data type: Document review; label types: Evaluation/rating and classification.
  • Annotation software: OTHER (project will provide tool access and instructions).

What you'll do

You will apply practical electrical knowledge to help AI systems learn to interpret and reason about technical documentation and field operations.

  • Analyze, interpret, and explain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control-system documentation for AI training.
  • Review, annotate, and validate technical materials such as equipment layouts, inspection reports, and operational procedures.
  • Evaluate troubleshooting scenarios and document analytical approaches using industry best practices.
  • Assess and clarify technical manuals and field operation guides for accuracy and clarity for non-expert audiences.
  • Provide detailed feedback on documentation quality and identify information gaps or ambiguities.
  • Collaborate asynchronously to share context, practical scenarios, and suggestions to refine workflows.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the core technical and communication requirements listed below; this project values careful, well-documented feedback on visual and written technical materials.

  • Proven expertise in electrical systems, control systems, automation, instrumentation, or field operations.
  • Experience interpreting and producing technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational documentation.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail when working with visually dense technical documents.
  • Comfort collaborating remotely in a digital-first, asynchronous project setting.
  • Fluent in English (project language).
  • Experience level: Entry level acceptable if you can demonstrate the required technical skills.

Preferred experience

Applicants with hands-on or engineering backgrounds will be especially valuable for this project.

  • Background as an Electrical Engineer, Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer, Instrumentation Engineer, Electrician, or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Previous participation in technical documentation review, process optimization, or field data analysis.
  • Experience creating, reviewing, or using visual documentation to troubleshoot or explain electrical/system issues.

How to apply and what to expect

To apply, create a free OpenTrain account, locate the OpenTrain listing, and submit your application with examples of relevant documentation work or a brief summary of your experience.

Selected contributors will receive project instructions, annotation guidelines, and access details for the labeling tool to begin reviewing documents and submitting evaluations and classifications.

  • Prepare examples of schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, or inspection reports you've worked with.
  • Be ready to commit 20+ hours/week and work asynchronously with the project team.
  • Compensation is hourly, within the stated range; tasks will be paid per hour worked under contract.
